Elisabeth Shue Loves Her Life

In 2002, Elisabeth Shue — already a Harvard graduate — was contemplating a return to academia in order to "reconnect with what’s real" when she agreed to replace Catherine Keener in the stage production of Burn This. "That sucked me back into the vortex," the 44-year-old actress tells New York magazine, and while she hasn’t looked back since she does set some limits. Mom to Miles William, 10 ½, Stella Street, 7, and Agnes Charles, 2, with husband Davis Guggenheim, Elisabeth says she’s happy to keep the entertainment industry at arm’s length.
"[Acting] has worked for my life really well. I have three children, and I love my life and don’t like to leave it too often. If I was more successful, I’d be pulled by great roles and directors wanting to work with me."
Elisabeth’s latest film, Hamlet 2, is in theaters now.

One of my favorite movies when I was younger was “Adventures in Babysitting.” My family watched that one a lot. It’s odd to watch something when you are younger and only see an actor, but when you get older you see “wow, they are more than an actor they have a family.” I feel that way about Melissa Joan Heart to. I hope that made sense (if not just ignore me!)

I have read that she has two girls and a boy. So Charles must be the middle name of her youngest girl.
(I think Charles isn’t the most masculine of names and it goes nicely together with Agnes IMO)

i LOVED adventures in babysitting! my cousin and i used to reenact that scene at the beginning when the sister who adores thor rollerskates into the kitchen to say,”guess what, brad? mom got chris to babysit for me tonight!” also, my aunt had the exact dress that elisabeth wears at the beginning of the movie when she’s dancing…we had fun taking turns putting the dress on and reenacting that scene too.

Glad she got sucked back, she’s hilarious in Hamlet 2…BTW, Agnes’ middle name is Charles, named after Davis’ father who passed away shortly before Agnes’ birth, Stella’s middle name is Davis’ mother’s maiden name and Miles’ is after Elisabeth’s late brother. We did the same with our children, all of their middle names are named for family memebers.
