FreeShipping.org: Why Pay More?

One of the most annoying things about shopping online is paying for shipping. Especially when you’re ordering only one item or a low price one, shipping can significantly add to the total cost. That’s why I love it when a site offers free shipping and that’s why I’ve bookmarked FreeShipping.org. The site lists over 800 mainstream sites offering free or discounted shipping. Included are mom-centric mega-stores like Babies R Us, Baby Center, Target, Kohl’s, apparel stores like Children’s Place, Robeez, Gap, Boden, and gear stores like BabyRide and One Step Ahead.

Unfortunately, they don’t list small sites like most of the boutiques we review at CBB (but check out our Shopping Guide because many of the shops we review offer our readers exclusive deals). There’s no fee to use the site- they make a small commission when you make a purchase. Make sure you sign up for their newsletter to receive new shipping deals as they are added to the site.

Other ways to save money when shopping online include signing up for your favorite sites’ email lists because many send special offers that way, checking coupon code sites like RetailMeNot, using a credit card that offers a cash rebate, and for gifts, sending the item directly to the recipient. For small sites, if the company doesn’t offer free shipping, you can always try emailing them and asking them for reduced or free shipping if you’re placing a large order (worst thing they can do is say no). I also use sites like eBates and MyPoints which earn you a cash rebate or points that can be redeemed for useful items like gift cards.
