Kate Beckinsale: Balancing Work and Family is a Struggle
Flynet |
Juggling a career and a family is tough work, but add in a job that has you on location for long periods of time and the situation becomes even more demanding! Being one of Hollywood’s top actresses, Kate Beckinsale is more than familiar with this scenario and admits that the balance between her movie roles and her family — husband, Len Wiseman, 35, and 9-year-old daughter Lily Mo — is a "struggle." Fortunately for both mother and daughter, between Len and Lily’s dad Michael Sheen, she has been blessed with "two fathers and two sets of grandparents," plus a bit of modern day technology — her iChat — to help ease the pain when Kate is off shooting a film. However, even with a loving family and fun ways to talk with Lily, Kate knows that it still is important to be there for her daughter as much as possible.
"I put her to bed every night and had breakfast with her every morning and went home almost every weekend. I think the key is not to be away for longer than five weeks."
Kate’s devotion to Lily does not go unnoticed by others — including her director for her new movie Nothing But the Truth, Rod Lurie. According to Rod, every photo taken on set showed Kate, 35, texting back and forth with Lily, an act that he calls "unbelievably lovely and sincere." In fact, Kate’s love for her daughter might just be made into a film! "To see the joy that’s in her eyes when her husband and her child came on the set is fantastic. As a dad, it’s really very nice. I’ll make a movie about it," commented Rod.

Not to be away more than 5 weeks that is crazy. In my opinion that is way to long to be away from your child.

I agree with you Darlene. 5 weeks is forever i would say a week or two at most.

“Unbelievely lovely and sincere” would be NOT leaving your child for 5 weeks!!!
Sorry, I prefer the Angelina way of taking her children with her on location. I would have died if my mother left me for five weeks at a time!!!

I was going to say something like “oh, come on, her daughter is 9 now, 5 weeks is not that long…” but I just realized I’ve never been away from my mother for 5 weeks. And I’m 18.
