No Childhood Acting for Ryder, Says Kate Hudson

When she was a child, Kate Hudson says mom Goldie Hawn dissuaded her from pursuing a career in acting. Although she’s been successful, winning a Golden Globe for her role in Almost Famous, Kate says she intends to pass along similar advice to her own son Ryder Russell, 4 ½ — at least while he is young. "I wouldn’t want Ryder to be a child actor," the 29-year-old actress said Monday night on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. "He might be interested in the arts, but for me personally, I don’t think it’s a good thing to … put your children into [acting] at too young of an age."

That’s not to say that she won’t change her mind, for Kate admitted to Jay that she couldn’t have been more wrong about her parenting style. While pregnant with Ryder, Kate described herself as an earth mama in the making — but motherhood in reality has proven to be far different than motherhood in the abstract.

"I thought I’d walk around like, ‘Oh, everything is great…I’m free…I’m not going to be crazy or controlling! And I turned into a crazy, controlling, non-earth mama. All of a sudden, I was like: Nobody touch Ryder!"

Ryder is the only child for Kate and ex-husband Chris Robinson.

I think she is so honest. It amazes me how many different women say that they will raise their children a certain way and how many people disagree and put others down for their parenting style and when it comes time to have their own children and raise them, they do things completely different and end up eating their own words.
