Jada Pinkett Smith: Will Has the Best of Both Worlds

Declaring herself always "ready to take on the world," Jada Pinkett Smith says her attitude toward life became even more true when she welcomed her two kids — Jaden Christopher Syre, 10, and Willow Camille Reign, 7 ½ — with husband Will Smith. "Once my children came into this world, I was like ‘There’s nothing more precious than these human beings,’" says the 37-year-old actress. The decision to have kids with Will — and to have two successful actors in the family — makes Jada realize that the "superstar" is definitely her husband and knowing that her "priority is my family," keeps life on the homefront balanced.

Over the years, Jada and Will have openly discussed their blended family with Will’s son Trey, 15, and his ex-wife Sheree, believing that a healthy environment for the kids makes for a happy family. For Jada — who is famous for her 7-Up cake — there is no other option but to have the whole family together to celebrate the holidays as she shares that Will really does have the best of both worlds!

"It’s cool because Will’s ex-wife cooks really well — so we all spend Christmas together — and she cooks macaroni and cheese and creamed corn and I do my little 7-Up cake, so Will’s happy! I told him, ‘You made two good choices: one who can bake and the other who can cook!’"

Jada’s new movie, The Women, is in theaters now.

The more I hear about their marriage the less I like Will. But obviously Jada is fine with the one-sided open marriage thing because she even openly embraces his exes in a way that’s real bizarre:

‘You made two good choices: one who can bake and the other who can cook!’

Those two must be funny to hang out with ! :-)

  3. Sarah Says:

wow, i am very impressed. it’s great that everyone can get along and be a family. the kids are very lucky to have three amazing parents!

  4. hanna Says:

Wow… I certainly could never do what Jada is doing… she is a different cookie… Good for them.

  5. Sadaf Says:

Jada’s attitude towards Will’s ex-wife and her step-son is very healthy and positive. I wish all women were just as secure and accommodating.

Some women can’t stand it if even their mother-in-law’s or biological sister’s cooking is appreciated by their husbands when their own recipe is on the table.

  6. Jeannette Says:

It’s so nice to have a divorced family to get along, especially for themselves not just about the kids. I always have that kind of respect for them of being mature and being a family that support one another.

  7. Rosy J Says:

I wonder if Will’s ex has a significant other and if and how they fit into the picture.

    Does anybody know? Just curious.

  8. m-dot Says:

Really nice. This is inspiring to all blended families.

  9. eva Says:

I admire Jada’s and Sheere’s civility and generosity. They both must be very self-confident women and mothers :)
I also wonder what 7-up cake is.

  10. steph Says:

this is one family, that alot of blended family should model themselves after. I think its very good for the children. Its a shame when kids are force to choose or when kids here bad stuff about the other side from both sides.

This is one really awesome family! Jada sounds like she is a treasure.

  12. Amanda Says:

7 Up cake? That sounds awesome! My German teacher at school used to make us a Fanta cake at the end of each term and it was delicious!

It’s great to see that Jada, Will and Sheree get along well. I remember the first Christmas my parents (and both their new partners) spent together after their divorce. Frosty would be the best way to describe it…and not just because of the snow outside! Thankfully it’s a lot, lot better now but I agree that a civil atmosphere is so importnat especially for the children.

  13. phoebe Says:

I remember a long time ago reading that there were issues with regards to the relationship between Will and Sheree, so it’s really great to see that things are so good now for the family. The kids are too cute!

  14. Brandi Says:

That sounds like my sister and her husband’s ex wife! They had a very amicable divorce, but the kids are pretty close in age for a blended family (6 and 8) and do a lot of the same activities like art class and basketball, so the moms just switch off on the driving and attend the basketball games together. It’s great for everyone, plus the boys are really close because the moms have worked to make it that way.

  15. Cyndi Says:

If I was ever to divorce, that is how I would want my life. I would want to continue parenting my children with their father and whoever else would be in the picture. I think it’s wonderful for the children to have a whole family instead of a broken one.
    Bravo!

I love this family, will and jada seem like great parents. And I respect jada even more cause she seems to adore her stepson and treat him as part of the family, that doesn’t always happen with stepmoms.
