"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

"If you ask Violet what I do, she'll say she remembers me bowing on stage when I did a show in New York, and so she'll say, 'My mom sometimes will bow on stage and sometimes she gets her hair and makeup done.' It's a great job!"

Nicole Kidman: Motherhood in My 40s is Bittersweet

After divorcing actor Tom Cruise in 2001, the chance of meeting another person to spend the rest of her life with was not something that Nicole Kidman pictured for herself. She admits in the November issue of Elle that she "didn’t forsee it, that you can meet somebody who you have a deep and more profound love with." However, when the actress met country star Keith Urban, Nicole had moved "into a stage where you’re able to be a more fuller person in your relationship," a loving bond that she is sure Tom has with his wife, actress Katie Holmes. While both couples seem to be thriving and completely content in their marriages, Nicole wants to make it clear that although she claims to have found a more profound love and would not recommend her kids getting married at such a young age, she is in no way looking to denounce her relationship with Tom. "I don’t want to take anything away from the 11 years with that man that were really important," says Nicole. Sharing that her family with Tom — including daughter Isabella Jane, 15, and Connor Antony, 13 — "were amidst a lot of love," she goes on to say that "now we’re amidst a more evolved loved."

Recently discussing her experience in what she calls Australia’s fertility waters, Nicole is confident that "nothing was stopping" her daughter with Keith, Sunday Rose, now 3 months, "from coming into the world." As for being a new mom for the third time, Nicole admits that she feels very protective of her children, comparing herself to "a lioness" as she shares that the couple were never planning on introducing their baby girl on a cover of a magazine. "I’m like, ‘No one gets near my babies!’ That’s why we chose not to sell photos of her. We just want to have our little cocoon," explains Nicole. Not alone in her desires to shield her children from the spotlight, Nicole shares that Keith — who Nicole says "gave me a life, gave me a home" — is in complete agreement, as she credits him as "the greatest man, besides my dad, I’ve ever met." Although beyond thrilled to have three kids, Nicole is aware that having a baby in her 40s is much more bittersweet.

"At 41, it’s more of a painful love. I look at that little girl and I’m like, ‘Oh, no, what’s going to happen?’ It’s almost like my heart is stretching; I’m feeling all the muscles stretch with emotion. It’s a beautiful love, but there’s a lot of fear and pain for her life, and for Bella and Connor’s life."

  1. Amanda Says:

I have nothing but good things to say about Nicole. She is elegant, graceful and poised. I love reading interviews of hers, because she always sounds intelligent and insightful. I am so happy for her that she was able to expand her family once more.

  2. Christina Bledsoe Says:

How sweet. I have no doubt that Nicole Kidman is a wonderful mother :)

  3. gerry Dalakian Says:

I like Nicole Kidman but frankly I’m perplexed by her
comments regarding her fear for the life of her child. Really what does that mean, sounds kind of silly to me, sorry.

  4. Bren Says:

I had always thought, weird you never see her with her older children then I just heard on the tv when they spoke about this cover that her and Keith live in TN which is why I am guessing you never see her with your children. I am guessing they live full time with their father but I always thought it weird we never see her with them but I am guessing they come to TN to visit? I dont know just something I thought about, a little irrelavant.

  5. melanie Says:

I actually do “get” what she means about the fear. I sometimes get a panicky looking at my babies, thinking of all the what-ifs in the world. They are so perfect that sometimes you fear something that would take that away.

  6. Mary Says:

I love Nicole. LOVE her. But I kind of got a little ticked by the first sentence of this article on people.com…”Becoming a mother at a later age?” She became a mother a long time ago, with her two adopted children. The fact that Sunday is her first biological child doesn’t change the fact that she has not just now become a mother.

  7. SeanJay Says:

Gerry I don’t see what is silly at all about having fear for your child with all the crazy things going on in this country & the world.

  8. sam Says:

I don’t think she meant her comment as a slight. To me she was saying that becoming a mother at a later age as opposed to when she was younger, has changed her perspective. I can certainly understand that.

  9. Hea Says:

Mary – Could it be that they mean the pregnancy and birth, which is at times harder for an older woman? And she has just become a mother. All over again. It’s been quite some time since the last time.

  10. CelebBabyLover Says:

Bren- Actually, I think Nicole pretty much answered that question in this interview, by saying that she is very protective of her children.

  11. kaya Says:

I’m sorry, I can’t bring myself to like her as an actress/public person. That cover looks ridiculous. Not saying anything about her as a mother, though:) Have you seen the latest pictures of Connor? So handsome!

  12. Julie Says:

see, I took her comment to mean she was worried about HERSELF: being older, she worries if she’ll be around to see all of the wonderful things life has to offer for her baby, and her other children as well.

  13. CelebBabyLover Says:

I forgot to mention in my last post that I love the way Nicole talked about Tom in this interview! It has been said by several people (including Tom himself) that Nicole and Tom are still on good terms, and this seems to prove it.

At any rate, it’s obvious that Nicole harbors no negative feelings towards Tom!
