No Delivery Surprise For Jonny Lee Miller and Wife

Expectant father Jonny Lee Miller says that the sex and name of his baby-on-the-way are a secret to just about everyone — everyone, that is, except he and wife Michele Hicks. When asked Monday on The Ellen DeGeneres Show whether they’re having a boy or a girl, Jonny quipped that the couple are just "hoping [it's] human," then admitted that while they do know the sex, they’ve opted not to share the news.

Similarly, the couple have chosen a name but Jonny says it’s "the kind of thing we don’t discuss with people" because "even your friends that don’t want to offer an opinion, they kind of do just by their facial expressions." They’ll say "that’s a good name!" or "I like it!" when it’s clear they don’t really mean it, the 35-year-old Eli Stone actor joked. When pressed by host Ellen DeGeneres, however, Jonny did reveal that he and Michele have chosen a "normal" name.

The couple, who married in July, confirmed the pregnancy last month. The baby is due by the end of the year.

I like the way he thinks. I told anyone and everyone the name I was giving my first daughter, Audrey, and my best friend told me he hated it and that it sounded like laundry. I decided to keep the second one a secret except with the hubby of course.

Did anybody see him on Ellen yesterday? When she asked to see his tattoos, and said that she’d donate 1000 dollars for every one he showed? He was so nervous, his hands were shaking! haha I think he ended up showing six. He was so cute! Then Ellen gave him a onesie that had long-sleeved “tattoo” arms for their baby. Funny!

I understand the keeping the name to yourself thing, but I don’t really get why expecting parents won’t share the sex of the baby with others once they know? It doesn’t make sense to me. I had a neighbor about 6 years ago who was expecting and they knew the gender of the baby but wouldn’t share it with anyone and when you asked why she would just say, “we want it to be a surprise” but that never made sense to me since if they didn’t want the surprise, why should friends and family have to wait if they want to know too? I mean, I get that it’s a personal thing, but it just seems a little strange to me. I totally get the name thing though-I have stated my “future baby names” to people before and have had either great reactions or the “that’s nice” with a fake smile reaction that obviously means they hate it. so, it’s better to just keep that a secret until the big day of the birth. ;)

It was so exciting for us to bring our loved ones into the delivery room and say “its a girl!”. My friend had a c-section and we waited on pins and needles for her husband to come to the waiting room and make the big announcement. I can totally understand them wanting to build up the suspense. It is worth it.
