Jerry O’Connell: ‘This Is a Really Happy Time for Us’

Preparing for the arrival of his twin daughters with wife Rebecca Romijn seems to be helping actor Jerry O’Connell to grow up."We cleared out a bedroom — actually not a bedroom — it was my aunt anduncle’s old stuff," Jerry, 34, told PEOPLE at Saturday’s The Hills: A Staged Reading at Hollywood’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theater."I had my computer and video games in there. That got cleared out forthe kids. So, I’m wondering what I’m going to do with my video gamestuff. But, maybe that goes out the window when you have kids."

As for preparing the girls’ room, Jerry says the couple is "baby-proofing the house, but mostly getting the nursery ready. We’ve got acouple cribs and stuff, so that’s about it." Rebecca’s mom Elizabeth is planning to move in with the pair, though Jerry says others have stepped up to lend a hand, too. "A lot of people are getting us ready for the first couple months," he shares.

Revealing that Rebecca is feeling "good," the actor explained, "I think as a husband, you feel a little jittery because at this pointyou have to just be there to help out as much as possible. Get food, make sure all the DVDs are rented. I’m sort of in a position where Ihave to assist at this point. So, it’s a little nerve-wracking in thatsense that I can’t; as a guy you want to be the one that’s carryingthem. You’re not."

The couple expects their daughters — who are fraternal, Jerry says — in January.

Ha, he’s funny! those computer and video games should go out the window when you marry someone like Rebecca;)
cool that they’re living with her mother.

  2. Brandi Says:

I think they will be such fun parents!

Good luck with the mother-in-law Jerry! I’m kidding, I would’ve loved to have that kind of support, although my mum lived about five minutes away when I had my daughter so it was pretty similar lol.

I am 30 and hoping to get pregnant in the next year or two. My husband is 29 and still plays video games like a 13 year old boy. I hope he, like Jerry, tosses them when we have a child! I’m petrified that he won’t though!

I can’t wait to see the girls! They are going to be gorgeous!

As for the video games – we have 5 children (7 & younger) & my husband plays his video games on his off days & at night after work. It really doesn’t bother me as long as there isn’t something that needs to be done. It something that he can do with our 7 yr old son & the other kids love watching too. As long as it doesn’t get in the way helping out with housework & the kids, I say go for it. It’s better than him being out of the house hanging out somewhere else!

My husband still plays computer games; our first is due at the beginning of February. I don’t have a problem with it. I mean, it’s a hobby just like I have my hobbies. I trust that he won’t play when there are other things to be done, just as I won’t read or do crafts or whatever when there are things to be done. I think many video/computer games are fine in moderation and I expect that in a few years playing MarioKart will be a bonding experience for our child and his/her daddy. :-)

  7. CelebBabyLover Says:

Could someone please explain to me how it’s possible for them to know the girls are fraternal?

I thought that, with same-gender twins, the only way to tell if they are identical or fraternal, unless they are both in one sack (that means identicals), is to do a DNA test after they’re born?

I know that fraternals are always in seperate sacks and have seperete placentas…But that can be the case with identicals as well.

  8. CelebBabyLover Says:

MB- ITA! Some of my fondest early childhood memories are of sitting on my dad’s lap and “playing” computer games with him (I put playing in quotes because my dad actually did most of the playing, as I was a little young to play computer games by myself at that point!)! :)
