"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

"If you ask Violet what I do, she'll say she remembers me bowing on stage when I did a show in New York, and so she'll say, 'My mom sometimes will bow on stage and sometimes she gets her hair and makeup done.' It's a great job!"

Queen Latifah Vows to Keep Baby News Private

From the sound of things, Queen Latifah is inching closer and closer to making her dream of motherhood a reality. So close, in fact, she says she accepted the role of August Boatwright in The Secret Life of Bees — at least in part — because if she did become pregnant during the shoot, it could be incorporated into the script. "August was just so nurturing and maternal and comfortable in her own skin," Latifah explains. "[She] communicated love for the most part, and that is okay if you’ve got a little one in there and all that love is flowing through your mind. It could be kind of cool."

If and when the 38-year-old actress does have baby news to share, she says she’ll do so sparingly, however.

"I will probably be six months pregnant before anyone knows about it and I won’t talk about the baby until after it’s born."

The Secret Life of Bees, which also stars Jennifer Hudson and Dakota Fanning, hits theaters October 17th.

I don’t know why women wait so long to have babies. Latifah has always been nurturing and mothering. She should have had a baby years ago. Hope things work out for her soon. She would be a perfect mommy!!

  2. Jay Says:

I love Queen Latifah…she will be an excellent mother. She is such a go-getter and has achieved so much and has knocked down alot of walls and hasn’t let things hold her back. She is just an inspiration and I wish her the best.

  3. dsmom Says:

I thought she was a lesbian! Does she have a man in her life right now? She will no doubt be a wonderful mother.

  4. Tiger Lily Says:

mslewis- I don’t understand why women choose to have children in their teens and early twenties, but I realize that my way of doing things isn’t by any means the only way of doing things.

Perhaps she felt like she was too immature before, perhaps she tried to conceive earlier and it didn’t work out, perhaps she was waiting to find the right partner and didn’t when she was younger.

I think that these are all valid reasons for waiting and I think that we all know women that these things happened to. We’ll probably never really know because it is clear that QT is a very private person. It really isn’t any of our business anyway. I hope everything works out for her.

  5. Sarah Says:

    I think, she’s pregnant already…

  6. Lorus Says:

dsmom – I don’t think she’s ever come out and said she’s gay but she has been with her partner for many years. They are most likely using donor sperm.

I think QL will make a great Mom. She seems very loving.

  7. NLT Says:

I’m not sure what her being a lesbian (or not) has to do with anything.

  8. Tarsha Says:

ds mom… she has never sayed whether she was gay or not. Even if so, she could still become pregnant……

  9. Molly Says:

Does that really matter if she’s a lesbian? It shouldn’t stop her from being a good Mom if and when she has kids. I think she would be an excellent mother.

  10. J Says:

Her being a lesbian (or not) doesn’t have anything to do with anything, but I know I sometimes wondered. Just harmless curiosity.

Either way, I love Queen Latifah, she’s a gorgeous woman. :D

  11. dsmom Says:

Ummm, Molly and nlt, Yes it does matter if she is a lesbian, this is a pregnancy and baby site isn’t it? That would bring up a whole lot of questions if she were (remember Clay Aiken).I know that she could still get pregnant and it was never said that her being a lesbian would make her any less than an excellent mother.

  12. carie Says:

Hmmm…..whenever people start making comments like this….it seems like they are already pregnant. There’s always an announcement a month later or so. So now I’m suspicious….and happy for her, if that’s the case! but very curious now…

  13. brannon Says:

Being a baby and parent site, her sexuality isn’t really in question – her role as a new mother would be. When people say it would “raise questions” it makes me sad that some still assume there would be something unnatural about it. She’s a woman. She desires a baby. Nothing more natural than that.

  14. Rosy J Says:

I saw the movie today and I highly recommend it. Queen and the entire cast were excellent. I understand what she means by her role and how she totally embraced it. Good luck to her and her dream of becoming a mother.

  15. Amy Says:

Whether or not someone is a lesbian might not be important, but if someone is not in a relationship (at least one that they have made public) it does cause people to wonder how they are going about getting pregnant. I think it is a valid question, not one that she has to answer, but definitely something a lot of people would be curious about.

  16. Mary Says:

I thought perhaps she hadn’t had any children all this time is because she didn’t have a significant other in her life. That and the fact that I’m sure her life is hectic with all of the many things she is doing with her career. Either way, I know she’ll be a great mom. She seems like such a genuinely nice person. And her movie was great as well. Highly recommend it.
