Debra Messing Reveals Her ‘Momtourage’

When he’s not at school, Roman Walker Zelman — the 4 ½-year-old son of actress Debra Messing — can often be found on the set of mom’s new original series The Starter Wife. So welcome is Roman, Debra counts many of the cast and crew as extended members of her ‘momtourage.’ Co-stars David Alan Basche, Hart Bochner and Chris Diamantopolous "have all become sort of … de facto uncles" to Roman, Debra reveals. "They play ball with him and they tickle him and they read books to him," she explains, "and the same thing [can be said of] my wardrobe girl and my make-up artist."

"Everyone on the set has become like a village, so to speak, you know, it takes a village. [Writers] Sara [Parriott] and Josie [McGibbon], of course, they’re like aunts as well, so luckily when I’m working I have a big village of people."

Roman is the first child for Debra and her husband Daniel Zelman. The Starter Wife airs Fridays at 10 p.m. on USA.
