Update: Laurence Fox tells reporters outside of the hospital that Winston James Fox arrived at 1 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21st, weighing in at 6 lbs., 11 oz. He also confirmed reports that the baby boy was delivered by c-section, but stresses that it was an emergency surgery. Billie labored for 26 hours before being taken to the operating room. Calling Winston "beautiful" and "sweet," Laurence shares,

"The emergency caesarean only took about 20 minutes. Billie is happy. Of course she is, she’s a mum. I am tired but not as tired as her — I am a proud father. She has been cut apart, so [she'll] probably [be hospitalized] overnight. I will be with her for the length of it."

Originally posted 8:30 a.m.: Secret Diary of a Call Girl actress Billie Piper, 26, has welcomed her first child, a son. Baby boy was born this morning at Portland Hospital in London, reportedly via c-section, with Billie’s husband Laurence Fox by her side. No other details about the birth have been released.

Billie said previously that she and Laurence had opted for a delivery surprise with their baby — who appears to have arrived right on time, as Billie was due in October.

  2. Vanessa Paige Says:

Congrats to one of my favorite celebs

  3. Reanne Says:

Hmmm..Portland IS notorious for their love of C-SECTIONS!!

It is VERY popular with the “too posh to push” crowd…Posh Spice created this phenomena with her 3
C-sections there and then of course there was Elizabeth Hurley,Supermodel Claudia Schiffer (twice)..and
EVEN the Duchess of York-Sarah Ferguson!!

I see Miss Piper had jumped on the bandwagon….

    Anyway…Congratulations !!!
I am sure baby is beautiful ,
    healthy and warmly welcomed…

  4. Chloe Says:

  11. babyboopie Says:

Congratulations to Billie and Laurence on having their little baby boy Winston! Enjoy him!

  12. Suzanne Says:

    Love the name….but
c-sections require more than an “overnight” stay at the hospital! Try 3-4 days with a lengthy recovery….hope mum and baby are doing well!

  13. Sasha Says:

Yay, congrats!! Lots of announcements this week!

Suzanne, she might recover rapidly, everyone is different :)

  14. phoebe Says:

Sasha, I’m not sure where you’re from so I don’t know your personal experiences of hospitals, but here in the UK, you are normally kept in hospital for several days if you have a caesarean, so if Billie is coming out early it’s more likely her choice than the doctors. Not that this really matters of course, but I just thought I’d say it coz I’m not sure where you’re from! :) .

Congrats to the new parents. Very unusual choice for a name, Winston isn’t heard very often in the UK anymore. Cute though. I wonder who the little one will favour in the looks department? Both parents have quite strong features.

  15. Caren Says:

Winston James!! Awesome name! Love it!

  16. christine c Says:

congrats!! cant wait to see what he looks like!!

  17. FC Says:

Congrats to Billie and Laurence! That name, Winston James Fox, sounds about as beautiful as their baby boy! :)

  18. elle Says:

Laurence went to Harrow School which is also the alma mater of Winston Churchill..maybe that is where it came from. His Father’s name is James.

  19. Ruthella Says:

    Congrats to Billie and Laurence!

I know quite a few people here in the UK who have come home after one night following a c-section, even an emergency one. I think it depends how strongly you feel about going home!

I like ‘Winston’, it’s different but nice :)

  20. Sarah Says:

It’s so British sounding to me…I love it! Reminds me of Mr. Churchill and it’s nice to see the name again.

  21. Sarah Says:

I loved Laurence in “Island at War” so much! I love the name for baby, Winston Fox…good solid name.

  22. Rene' from Tucson Says:

    Congratulations Billie and Lawrence.

Make Happy memories for the 3 of you.

  23. anniebabe Says:

I too was in labour for 26 (and a half) hours with my little boy and ended up with an emergency c section. I was in hospital for 3 nights and the recovery was so long. I felt awful for a good few months. I hope she recovers quicker.

Congrats, and it is a cute name.

  24. Nat Says:

Hi all, it’s just been reported that:
‘…doctors told Laurence Fox that Piper might not be ready to go home for five days to a week.’
Fox said ‘She had a Caesarean. It was quite a major thing wasn’t it.’ Bless!
