With an active 17-month-old who "always wants to be outdoors, roaming around," Kevin Costner and his wife Christine Baumgartner Costner are preparing to give their son Cayden Wyatt a sidekick, as the couple confirm that the baby they are expecting is indeed another boy. Although the 34-year-old mom admits that "my hands might be full with another child in the house," Christine — who "can handle [two babies]" — is clearly elated and ready for the challenge of raising two young children. "I’m so happy that Cayden will have a little brother to play with. I love being a mom," says Christine.
Reluctant to have another child at the age of 53, Kevin admits that he "wasn’t looking to ‘get it right’" with his second family, saying that he has always maintained a very close bond with his older children. After having four children from previous relationships — Annie, 24, Lily, 22, Joe, 20, and Liam, 11 — the actor felt that in regards to having a family, "that part of my life was very complete." Kevin, who "wasn’t sure I was in the mood" to raise more children, reveals that he was a constant support for his other kids as they were growing up, and does not feel that he needs to fix past mistakes. "I mean, for my older children, I went to all their plays and all their soccer games and their recitals and was there through all their ups and downs. I don’t feel like I missed anything."
Having been there for his kids’ childhood memories, Kevin admits that his worry with having more children stems from feeling like he couldn’t "be as complete as I was the first time around." In the end, Kevin shares that it was out of his profound love for Christine that he agreed to another child. "I love my wife so much, I was willing to do that. And a lot of times the things you fear the most in your life turn out to be the things that save you."
Christine is due in February.
