Suri’s gorgeous and I love seeing her out with Mom & Dad, but I wish we also say more of Bella and Conner! (I understand why we don’t…)
October 28th, 2008 at 11:59 am
each time I see this child, I think “poor little rich girl”…
October 28th, 2008 at 12:08 pm
Still not understanding the lack of warmer clothing….
October 28th, 2008 at 12:21 pm
Why no tights or a sweater or a coat? I hated wearing a coat as a kid but I had no choice.
I am really getting grossed out that the parents are all bundled up and the body guards but this kid isn’t.
I live near NYC and its freezing outside.
October 28th, 2008 at 12:22 pm
I am not understanding the lack of tights or a jacket/sweater on Suri. The parents are dressed weather appropriate. I still say they are showing off her dresses. Its cold here in the NYC area. Every other celeb parent dresses their child weather appropriate in NYC when I have seen their pics. Sarah Jessica Parkers son, and Matilda Ledger are all dressed for cold weather.
October 28th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
This child is INCREDIBLY BEAUTIFUL and next to Clementine (Daughter of Claudia Schiffer ) is my FAVOURITE celeb child …
October 28th, 2008 at 12:28 pm
I think they(TomKat) LOVE to show the whole world the beautiful, expensive dresses they indulge this child with…
If you are covered up in an ugly bulky coat then who can see the fancy DESIGNER threads from Bonpoint,Juicy Couture or Janie and Jack!!!
October 28th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
“I still say they are showing off her dresses.”
Tay…I AM SO IN AGREEMENT WITH YOU…
October 28th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
I love Suri’s dress but what I love even more is her homemade necklace. It’s great to see her being a normal kid and that Katie let her wear her little creation!
October 28th, 2008 at 12:36 pm
Why does it matter so much how they dress THEIR daughter? I’m sure some of the things your children wear aren’t what others consider “weather appropriate”.
October 28th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
I am not a Scientolgist, but I
have read that they do not force anything from the earlist age! I think if you educate yourselves about Katie and Tom’s chosen religion you will ease off the criticism. Also, why do you think the Travoltas do not allow photos and info on their family life? Each Scientogist does what they think is best. Tom and Katie are so over what others think. Suri has not been sick and if she did, they would give her the best of care. Suri would cry if she were forced to put on leggings or jackets, they dont think it is necessary! Enjoy these photos for what they are. The people who sale clothes benefit, commissions are being made, etc. They are adding to the econmy, you know people are copying her style! We all would not pass approval from one another if we were in the spotlight!!!
October 28th, 2008 at 12:45 pm
Well said ladies. Her dress is super cute but PUT A COAT on that little girl! Her parents are always bundled up as though they are walking through the artic and Suri is always in only a dress!? A cute dress but just a dress!
October 28th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
Suri will be fine; it will build up her immune system!
October 28th, 2008 at 1:06 pm
Last year, there were photos of Suri wearing a coat, and tights…I am still not sure why they are taking her out in 30-40 degree weather with neither of those essential cold weather items. Her dresses are lovely, but c’mon…
October 28th, 2008 at 1:16 pm
And going out coatless in the cold will not build up her immune system. Granted, a person only gets sick if they contract a virus, however when the core body temperature is lowered, it can create a higher sucsceptibility to falling ill because of those viruses. If they can’t put a coat on her, how about long sleeves, leggings, socks and some warmer footwear?
October 28th, 2008 at 1:17 pm
I was giving Tom and Katie the benefit of the doubt for quite awile but after seeing Matilda Ledger on the same day wearing pants and a coat I have to agree with alot of the comments. I saw this same pic but it also showed Tom, Katie, and a bodygaurd in sweaters and jeans. They need to put something warm on this little girl. Even if they go from a building straight to the car.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:21 pm
Suri is and has always been such a pretty little girl! Stunning child.
As it is, most people are fortunate enough to have only one mother-in-law sticking her nose in (to what is obviously none of her business) and telling you what SHE thinks you should be doing with YOUR child.
You know, that mother-in-law who just can’t help herself and HAS to make a comment when she sees that..GASP! you’re doing something she doesn’t approve of? And she gets annoyed when she realizes that you’re going to continue doing what you want with YOUR child, and keeps making the comment because, goshdarnit, she’s right? Because of course what she’s saying isn’t just her opinion, it’s ‘the right thing to do’? It seems Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have not one mother-in-law, but 1,000.
What I think Katie should do is start a blog and take pictures of everyday people and their children walking on the street and start making comments about what she thinks THEY should be doing with their children.
Cut those bangs! Where’s her coat? Isn’t that dress a bit expensive/cheap? Why doesn’t she let that child WALK?
Katie should try it, I’m sure everyday moms would love and appreciate the extra critiquing.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
I don’t get the vibe that all this is about showing off her dresses. Obviously I’m purely speculating here, but I get the feeling its about Suri running the show. Like maybe she’s a kid that just doesn’t seem to get cold much so resists putting on a sweater or tights. And the parents don’t fight it – figuring they will grab a blanket instead when they go out.
Not saying right or wrong or that that would be my approach, just saying I get the vibe Suri calls the shots here. She’s old enough to complain if she’s cold. I think they are just letting her go outside dressed as she wants.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Oh dear, poor Suri without a coat.
Someone call Child Protective services.
Or at least contact the Maury show (or Nancy Grace)and get these terrible people on. We MUST find out why Tom and Katie are so cruel, hoarding all the warm clothes for themselves and allowing this poor child to freeze. And doing it in the full glare of the public too! For SHAME!
October 28th, 2008 at 1:29 pm
Gina, I love your comment!!!
October 28th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
Gina I agree with you to a degree, but Katie and Tom posed for pictures with their little girl and made her a public commodity for fodder.
If they didn’t want us to comment on every aspect of her – why a press release of her name, a splashy paid for spread in a glossy mag, come on.
Also – it really interesting how there were a ton of remarks about her bangs (i didn’t care or see a hazzard) and then all of a sudden she has a hair cut.
I bet we will see her in warmer duds soon enought.
I get cold just looking at the photo. My kids are 3 and 1 and they don’t know how to tell me they are cold.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
I can’t speak for everyone natasha, but I find it disturbing to see Katie and Tom making the effort to dress themselves up warmly whilst Suri is continually dressed in short sleeved dresses. I’ve seen Tom and Katie wearing coats, double layers, scarves; why isn’t the same effort extended to their young daughter?
Just look at how Michelle Williams is dressing Matilda who is only a year older than Suri. That is how to dress your child when it’s getting chilly.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:34 pm
I noticed how the temperature stated in some comments get lower and lower with each Suri article. At this rate, NYC will be the tundra.
It’s chilly in the New England area but it’s not exacty freezing yet. She may needa jacket, but overexaggerating won’t get it on her sooner.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
Seriously people, get over the no coat issue! Is Suri your daughter? Did Tom or Katie ask you for your opinion? Would you like random people criticizing your parenting decisions? You all have no idea why Suri isn’t wearing a coat in these pictures we see of her. So, stop assuming Tom and Katie are irresponsible show-offs.
Suri is a cutie and she doesn’t look cold to me. And I just love her necklace.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
There is also a $300 sweater to go with this dress. I don’t see why they didn’t buy that to show off their wealth instead of having her run around in these dresses and no tights.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:38 pm
LOL! W/ gina regarding the mother-in-law comment. Too funny!
October 28th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
It’s time to put Suri’s spring/summer wardrobe away and pull out the fall/winter wardrobe…with it frosting at night and being November in a couple days and all…
October 28th, 2008 at 1:42 pm
http://x17video.com/celebrity_video/katie_holmes/katie_and_suri_in_the_park.php
watch that video. you will see katie keeps touching suri’s arm and face to check for warmth, then she tries to put her sweater on and suri has a tantrum. they are well aware that it’s cold. leave them alone, this is obviously a battle not worth fighting for now.
October 28th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
If the kid makes a fuss you take them inside and tell them they can’t go out in the first place without a sweater. Why does a 3 year old get to dictate to an adult what to wear?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:15 pm
Betsy, you are right. And she’s 2, not 3. It’s called parenting 101…If you don’t wear your sweater then we won’t go to the park. Parenting, not rocket science. Also, if the sweater/coat is the issue, then here’s an idea – put some long sleeves and long pants on her! Maybe some socks with her shoes? Does this child own a sweatshirt and gym shoes for playing at the park?
October 28th, 2008 at 2:37 pm
Gina, I agree 110% with your comment.
I’m happy I’m not in the public eye because I’m sure I’d get shredded to pieces on a daily basis by such parenting experts as the ones who comment here.
October 28th, 2008 at 3:28 pm
Ah, Brandi, that makes sense.
It definitely seems like Suri runs the show.
October 28th, 2008 at 3:42 pm
that dress looks like something out of the village of the damned remake. i wouldn’t want to be showing it off.
the kid has an adorable face. and i want that haircut.
October 28th, 2008 at 3:53 pm
you can see a bit of tom in suri in this pic. i love that they cut her hair it looks real cute on her…kids get messy and it helps when the hair is shorter.
October 28th, 2008 at 4:18 pm
Gina, I understand what you mean . I’ve let my guys go in a lighter jacket/outfit than I wear normally (and boy does my M-I-L let me know) but a light dress just is not appropriate in this case.
Weather in the northeast changes quickly, and we’ve dropped colder and colder this week. It was in the 30’s overnight, and there is a wind advisory and chance of snow. Its not like its just a little chilly, and Suri was being spunky. I had to fight my son this morning to put on a coat but its for his own good.
October 28th, 2008 at 4:35 pm
I think this little dress is cute, and thank goodness the sleeves are a little longer. I watched the video, and yes, it definitely looks like Suri makes the rules when Katie tries to put the sweater on her! What worries me though, is the fact that Suri shows No interest in playing with any of the other kids. She does her own thing, and Katie stays in her face the whole time. I don’t know…just strange.
October 28th, 2008 at 5:19 pm
Thanks for the link Brandi.
Gosh, i found that video shocking, i didn’t realise just how “stalked” Katie and Suri are, it seemed like watching a show! And all the photos being taken of her whilst she was trying to play.
October 28th, 2008 at 5:28 pm
I agree that Suri should be wearing a coat. I understand that she might not want to and may throw a temper tantrum but she is 2. She does not make the rules. Hopefully as it gets colder, Katie starts having her dress more warming.
@Bethy,
I do not have children, however, I’ve been in many children development classes and we’ve learned that younger children do not play with other children. They do “parallel play” where they might be in the same room/environment with another child, maybe even playing with the same toys but they do not interact/play with the other child. Suri is only 2 so I really think that is pretty age appropriate. I’m sure as she gets a bit older and goes to school, she will learn to play with others. Also because Katie is a celebrity, people may not want their children playing with Suri. They might see the cameras and not want their children exposed to that.
October 28th, 2008 at 5:35 pm
I agree with those that says Suri runs the show!
Take a look at the video. Every child is bundled up in coats (as well as the parents) Suri is not. Katie attempts to put a sweater on her and she starts bouncing up and down and taking her arm out. Katie gives up. This would be the time I’d say to her, “Suri you either wear the jacket or we go home!”
I don’t really buy the whole “pick your battles” when it comes to your childs well being. Obviously it’s cold outside therefore the child should be dressed appropriately. If she hates jackets put her in pants or a sweater….but I am sure that’s not going to sit well with Suri!
On a side note I too would hate to be constantly watched by photographers all day but alas this is the job they chose and unfortunately this is what comes with it.
October 28th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
When my younger sister was little she absolutely REFUSED to wear anything other than dresses. She couldn’t stand clothing that touched her body, like tights, leggings, jeans, sweaters, etc…all she would wear was dresses. Some little ones are very particular.
October 28th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
The NY/NJ area had snow today. Some areas weren’t hit but some had a few inches.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:06 pm
god, that girl is gorgeous. absolutely a doted-upon, little princess & the centre of her parents’ universe (neither meant to be a negative or judgmental on her parents, imo).
October 28th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
It’s funny how everyone’s stating how cold she must be when the pics are from Monday when the weather was in the upper 60’s and sunny. They should dress THEIR child however they want and if she is cold they’ll put a jacket on her.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Suri is a beautiful little girl. I wish you guys would lay off and leave this pair alone.
Also “If they didn’t want us to comment on every aspect of her – why a press release of her name, a splashy paid for spread in a glossy mag, come on.
Also – it really interesting how there were a ton of remarks about her bangs (i didn’t care or see a hazzard) and then all of a sudden she has a hair cut”-betsy-
You forgot to add Brad and angie, jessica alba, Jlo, heidi, denise and charlie, juila roberts…. Because Tom and Katie are far worst parents than these other celebs who do the exact same thing. As much as I love celebrity baby blog, I don’t think Tom and Katie really sit there and read all our comments about their daughter. Then to please you nay -sayers cut their daughters hair. So please.
October 28th, 2008 at 7:17 pm
AP – as that may be true there are still ways to work with the child.
For instance my mom’s friends daughter has mild autism. One side effect when she was a toddler was she hated to wear clothes of any kind. She said she didn’t like it on her skin. In the middle of winter she’d run around in just undies! But if she wanted to go outside her parents MADE her wear all the necessary clothing. She understood that inside she could wear what she wanted and outside she had to dress warmly or there was no playing outside. If you can teach an autism child this understanding you certainly can teach any child!
I think Katie tries as you can see she did provide the sweater and Suri through a fit. I think it’s time to whip the little girl back into shape before it’s too late!
October 28th, 2008 at 9:28 pm
I don’t think there is anything wrong with anything. Katie tried to put a sweater on the tot and when she pitched a fit, she took Katie out of the park and wrapped her in a blanket. She’s obviously in the terrible twos so Katie didn’t bother fighting about the sweater, just took Suri away from the super fun park. I think too many armchair critics make too much a case out of Katie & Tom’s parenting. This is a beautiful child and she looks very loved and cared for.
October 28th, 2008 at 10:34 pm
This is pretty ridiculous and hilarious. All the people giving parental advice on a blog based on pics and a few minutes of video. Like anyone actually knows how they are as parents or how their kid is.
October 29th, 2008 at 12:19 am
betsy- Why “a splashy paid for spread in a glossy mag”? Um, have you forgotten what happened BEFORE they did that introductry photoshoot? People were saying horrible things about Suri, such as that she had a deformity, a genetic disorder such as Down Syndrome, was really an alien, and even that she didn’t really exist.
I mean, what were they supposed to do?
Meg- It was in the upper 60s? I don’t wear a coat when it’s that warm, either!
Mary-Helen- Very good point about that video! I watched it too, and Katie actually DID take Suri away from the park when she refused to wear her sweater/coat. So it sounds like she probably DID say “Suri, either you wear your sweater or we’re leaving the park!”.
She also bundled Suri up in a blanket and carried her when she refused to wear the sweater. I’m guessing that that Katie has told Suri that if she won’t wear her sweater, then she has to be bundled up in the blanket and carried (something I’m guessing Suri doesn’t like, given that she actually walks most of the time).
As for this picture…Who knows. We’re literally seeing about 10 seconds of their day. Unless and until we see more pictures of them from this day or a video, we will never know whether Katie once again tried to put a sweater on her and ended up carrying her in the blanket again.
Finally, this probably isn’t the case, but…For all we know, Suri has some sort of condition that causes her to overheat rather quickly. Again, I realize that probably isn’t the case, but my point is that we have absolutly NO idea why Suri isn’t wearing a coat, and it could be any number of reasons.
October 29th, 2008 at 12:51 am
Betsy what a petty jealous comment. They don’t need to show off their wealth. Why does it get to so many of you how much strangers spend on their kids clothes?? EVERY celeb has expensive stuff, why just get on Tom & Katie’s back.
The whole theory about them wanting to show off her dresses is crazy too. She’s worn coats before.
It’s like you guys can’t whine & moan about her bangs anymore so you’ve moved onto her lack of a coat.
October 29th, 2008 at 1:39 am
OH PLEASEEEEE!!!!!!
You all are NOT Suri’s parents. You can’t tell them what they should and shouldn’t be doing….live your life and let them live theirs. Is Suri shivering to death? NOPE!
I think you all are just JEALOUS! Suri shut this whole celebrity baby game downnnnn when she was born. She’s the most famous celebrity baby EVER! She stays nicely dressed unlike half of those other celebrity babies who are photographed looking like they just rolled out of bed!
October 29th, 2008 at 1:59 am
She looks absolutely gorgeous in that picture. I love the dress too, Bonpoint makes cute little dressy coats that would match quite lovely with the dress.
I’m guessing Suri doesn’t like them, and she seems to get her way about things, who knows?
October 29th, 2008 at 3:36 am
I watched the video and found it really confronting. I always knew Celebrities were stalked but filming them while they take their children to a park is just crazy.
I think poor Katie is stuck between a rock and a hard place. She could either let Suri go without the sweater or force it on her for which a video would be posted saying shes an out of control, violent parent!
I do think having her in an expensive dress all the time is a bit excessive, but if I had the money I would probably sing a different tune!
October 29th, 2008 at 4:57 am
Katie and Tom love this child more than any one. In a video, we have seen Suri not allowing things in her hair and refusing a sweater. I am sure Tom has tried too and so have Katie’s parents. Suri seems like a child who you would be punishing all the time if you chose to refuse her things because of her storng mindedness.
Gina has a point. Too many arm chair critics. Let Suri’s parents raise her.
Back tot he picture. She is such a beautiful munchkin. Probably one of the most gorgeus children I have seen.
October 29th, 2008 at 5:20 am
Just saw the video…
THAT’S the “fit” that made Katie Holmes give up? sigh….
October 29th, 2008 at 5:37 am
Btw, accusing them of not covering up their child because of a superficial desire to show off her “expensive” dresses is silly.
There are expensive coats too lol.
When you’ve got money like that, you don’t feel the need to show off a 100€ dress.
I think it’s more about Katie’s lack of oomph… but then it’s their problem.
October 29th, 2008 at 7:30 am
Also they weren’t paid for that photoshoot if I remember right. Silly argument really.
October 29th, 2008 at 7:31 am
Here we go again! Tom and Katie are the worst parents of the decade! Suri will get sick. Suri runs the show”
And this gem:”If they didn’t want us to comment on every aspect of her – why a press release of her name, a splashy paid for spread in a glossy mag, come on.”
Okay, so say the same for Ben and Jen, Brad and the NEVER CAN DO WRONG Angelina, and ALL the other celebs that are treated like royalty here.
It makes me sick how people rip apart this family. If you saw Katie in the park or on the street with Suri, would you go up to her FACE and tell her the things you type here safe behind your computer? I think NOT….
As for the posters who say they are just showing off their clothes, their wealth or their expensive taste; get over yourselves! Why not bash EVERY celebrity whose child has on designer clothing? They ALL wear the expensive stuff because they (GASP) HAVE THE MONEY TO AFFORD IT!
Sheesh, some people here need to get a hobby instead of snarking on TomKat every single post!
October 29th, 2008 at 7:40 am
Oh and has anyone considered that Katie may be trying to teach Suri a lesson?
Wear a coat, be warm and be able to play. Don’t wear one, get cold and you don’t get to play.
Nope, it’s just bad parenting to you people who have PERFECT children.
October 29th, 2008 at 8:04 am
This blog is absolutely laughable. Allow these parents to take care of their child. I find it highly unlikely that Suri would be cold and they let her freeze! They know what’s best; Katie always seems to have a blanket with her! And besides why obsess about it, it’s always a topic of concern let them be!!!
October 29th, 2008 at 9:06 am
My 7 year old nephew who lives in London (where it can get very chilly in October and even late September) refuses to wear a sweater or long pants to school (until it is really cold) because he simply does not feel the cold. Perhaps Suri is the same way. Our body’s reaction to outside temperatures are all different – I have spent time with people from Minnesota who wear an unbuttoned jacket while I am wrapped up in a winter coat, hat, scarf and gloves.
October 29th, 2008 at 10:25 am
alabama,
I giggled. I am from MN, and i wear sandals with 3 feet of snow in the ground!
we know cold
hehehe.
anyways everyone else, get over it. or man up and call child protective services if you feel THAT concerned about it.
October 29th, 2008 at 11:23 am
What a beauty!
I saw a video of Katie and Suri in the park. Katie was rubbing Suri’s little arms and then tried to put a sweater on her, but she kept moving and pulling it off. The thing is, any other parent probably would have made her put it on. When you are always in the spotlight though, I’m sure it’s harder. If she would have fought with Suri to keep the sweater on, next we would be reading comments about her abusing the poor kid. When I was little I use to fight and fight with my parents, I never wanted a coat on. Finally my Dad told my Mom to bring the coat, but not to make me wear it. I would learn soon enough and I did. I don’t think I lasted a minute outside without it!!
Having said all that, no one knows what goes on in Tom and Katie’s life. I’m sure if they were bad parents it would be reflected in their daughter. Suri is as happy and gorgeous as any 2 year old should be. With warm clothes or without, with long bangs or short, expensive dresses or cheap, she is a happy little girl! I think everyone can agree that this is what is most important!
October 29th, 2008 at 11:58 pm
TracyG- “the NEVER CAN DO WRONG Angelina”…Are you kidding me? Angie gets ripped apart here just as much as Tom and Katie do!
She’s been ripped apart for everything from Pax’s adoption (people were complaining that she should have waited until Shiloh was older before adopting) to her and Brad’s constant globetrotting with the kids, to not having Shiloh out with the other kids to not loving Shiloh as much as her adopted kids (I hate using that term, but in this case I really couldn’t avoid it), to (up until around the time she “announced” her pregnancy with Knox and Viv) carrying Zahara all the time.
Anyway, trust me, Angie is hardly treated like royalty here! In fact, she and Tom and Katie seem to be the celebs that are ripped apart the most on this blog!
alabama- You may as well have been discribing me! I am very “hot blooded” and NEVER wear a sweater, sweatshirt, or sweatpants. I’m also known for walking around with my jacket unzipped, even in the middle of winter!
Kat- Very good point! While adults can put on an “act” for the cameras, that is something a child, especially one as young as Suri, cannot do.
Look at Britney’s boys, for example. If you look back at pictures of them out with her during her downward spiral, you can tell (in most of them, anyway) that they weren’t happy, and that their lives weren’t the best right then.
If you compare those photos to photos taken this summer and just recently, the difference is amazing.
Anyway, I completely agree that, if Tom and Katie really were bad parents, it would be reflected in Suri.
October 30th, 2008 at 12:58 am
Okay, let me clarify one of the things I said in my previous comment. When I said that Angie gets ripped apart for not loving Shiloh as much as her adopted kids, of course I didn’t mean that she really does love Shiloh less.
She obviously loves all of her kids equally. I just meant that people tend to ACCUSE her of not loving Shiloh as much as the older kids because of what the tabs have printed, a couple quotes taken out of context, and the fact that, until recently, Shiloh wasn’t seen as much as her older siblings.
October 30th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
I think suri runs her parents at 2yrs old lol
