Melanie Chisholm on Following Her Path to Motherhood

Contrary to rumors, Melanie Chisholm — who expects her first child this winter — says she has "no plans" to walk down the aisle anytime soon. During a Tuesday appearance on the UK’s Paul O’Grady Show, she told guest host and fellow Spice Girl Melanie Brown that she and boyfriend Thomas Starr intend to "get married one day…but just not at the moment." While spending so much time with the "beautiful" children of her bandmates during the Spice Girls recent world tour was "brilliant," Mel C. was quick to point out that it didn’t factor in to her decision to become pregnant.

"I’ve always wanted to have children and it’s just never been the right time for me [before]. You have your path in life and you just follow it."

Baby-on-the-way will be a delivery surprise — which is a surprise in and of itself for the 34-year-old songstress.

"Whenever I thought about having a baby, I always thought I’d want to know, straight away just so you can kind of bond with it. But when it came down to it, I thought, ‘Don’t tell me!’ I was even having nightmares that on the scan I saw a little willy or something."

   One thing’s for sure, let’s take this with a pinch of salt. Mel attempted to put people off the scent by saying she didn’t want children yet, while she was already pregnant. It’s possible she’s trying the same thing with the marriage issue. Other SG babies were born in March, so maybe this one will share a birthday!

   I agree with you about the marriage thing, Phoebe. I think she likes to try to keep things private when she can – even if it involves a bit of fibbing!

   As for her due date, I know that articles have been saying March, but I’m virtually certain she’s due in January. When she was on the Al Murray show recently, she said she was due “just after” Christmas.
