Speaking backstage at last night’s taping of Dancing With the Stars, singer Lionel Richie offered up some "hot off the press" news about the impending first steps of his granddaughter Harlow Winter Kate Madden, 9 ½-months. Baby girl is "holding onto the chair" and "getting confidence in the legs," Lionel proudly reports to Entertainment Tonight. "It’s about to be official…she may be walking, like, any minute." When the big moment arrives, Harlow will have a captive audience in Lionel, who promises:
"I have to be there when she takes those first steps. I have video, I have phone, I have every possible way to film this."
Harlow is the first child for Lionel’s daughter Nicole Richie, 27, and partner Joel Madden, 29.

I absolutely love Lionel. When I was little we had a best of the Comodores tape in the car and me and my dad would sing them together. My favorite Lionel song has always been Ballerina Girl which he wrote for Nicole. I can imagine him singing it to Harlow as well.

This is very sweet. My children’s grandparents spoil them ridiculously and it’s adorable. Harlow was born on my due date with my son (he was born a week earlier) and he’s doing the exact same thing. Holding on, pulling up, and testing the waters. They’re hitting their milestones at the same time. I’m thinking, playdate??? lol
