Kevin McKidd Does Not Hesitate to Put Family First

When the golden opportunity to audition for a role on Grey’s Anatomy presented itself, actor Kevin McKidd was more than thrilled to accept — until he realized the big meeting was scheduled on his son’s eighth birthday! Kevin, who is often shooting on location and admits that he is "hardly ever in the same country on my son’s birthday," flew into Los Angeles just in time to celebrate the special day with Joseph, only to receive an important call from his agent. Despite learning the exciting news that the creator of the hit show, Shonda Rhimes, was eager to meet the 35-year-old actor, Kevin kept his promise to Joseph and, like any loving father, asked if he could reschedule.
"I was like, ‘I’d love to meet her, but I can’t. Can we do tomorrow?’ And they’re family-friendly so they were really understanding."
It seems that Kevin did in fact impress Shonda, as he has joined the Grey’s Anatomy cast as Owen Hunt! The show airs Thursday nights at 9 p.m. on ABC.
Joseph and daughter Iona, 6, are Kevin’s children with wife Jane Parker.

It is interesting the first
few weeks he was on he was
a tough guy..than at the end
of the show ..He seemed intereted in patients feelings
on Grey’s.. Since everyone makes it a contest …
He makes the show more interesting now… finding out that he is a father..
and a little more about him..

I loved him in HBO’s Rome. I’m glad to see him on something else.

I refuse to watch Grey’s but love this actor, yet seriously am I supposed to be impressed that he spent his son’s birthday with him instead of running off to an interview? It’s not like this guy is some hungry actor so I don’t find it amazing that he told the producer to reschedule. I think this is one of those stories you tell your friends and they love, but to the public sounds less appealing. I hope with his new job, he’ll spend more time with the kids since he seems like a good dad who would like to be with them more.

I really didn’t know who he was before he appeared on Grey’s but I certainly am a fan now. I love him on the show and quite frankly he is the only reason I am still watching it.

I loved him in Journeyman and was bummed when it was cancelled. I’m glad to see that he’s got a new job (liked him in Maid of Honor too.)

I loved him in Journeyman and was very sorry when it was canceled, it was just getting really interesting. Typical. And he was wonderful in Rome. But I don’t watch Grey’s so oh well. I wonder if his son is as handsome as his father?

Grey’s is the first show that i’ve seen him on (that i can recall). he’s pretty cool on there. i can kind of see what direction theyre taking his character in. he is a good addition to the show, especially with the background that they are giving his character. quite different from the other surgeons.
