Catherine Keener Scared to Tell Son About Her Career

Clyde Keener Mulroney may be the 9-year-old son of actors Dermot Mulroney and Catherine Keener, but he does not realize they are famous, or if he does, he doesn’t care. Catherine recently shared with Newsday that she moved away from New York City with her son to Santa Monica, Calif., so that they could have a "slowed-down life" and that Clyde "doesn’t know any famous people I know … or he knows them and doesn’t know they’re famous."

In fact, Catherine held off on telling her son what she did for a living because "I must have some shame in it … so I had to really re-evaluate what I was hiding from him," which turned out to be "fame."

"Such a premium is put on fame, a lot now more so than a lot of other things. But he’s this young kid, and I should have trusted he didn’t care about that stuff."

Catherine, 49, and Dermot, 45, divorced on December 19, 2007.

   I liked her in Into The Wild and the 40 year old Virgin. She’s so beautiful. I don’t think I could handle being famous so I understand her comment.

   It’s sad they divorced.

   Isn’t one of her closest friends Brad Pitt? HA. Something tells me the latter part of her statement is the more likely scenario – he knows his parents and some of their friends are famous, but just doesn’t care.

   Is she really that famous? I had never heard of her, I have heard of her ex husband but have no idea what he looks like!

   I think living in LA is just as busy, if not busier than New York. The traffic is just awful and takes forever to get anywhere?

   I have seen many movies that her ex-husband Dermot has been in, but the only movie I have ever seen with her was when she played Steve Carell’s girlfriend in “40 Year Old Virgin”. What other movies has she done?

   Hopefully their son will like his new home in Santa Monica.
