Vera Farmiga Would Be Pregnant Forever, If She Could

Roger Wong/INF

By the time most women reach their eighth month of pregnancy, they’re ready to throw in the towel — but not so for Vera Farmiga. "It blows my mind," said the 35-year-old actress during a recent appearance on Late Night with Conan O’Brien. "I mean, there’s a naked human inside of me!"

"I love it, and I can do it every single day for the rest of my life. People are just warmer, friendlier, more generous."

When asked whether she’d taken a Lamaze class — something she characterized as "breathing for dummies" — Vera didn’t directly answer, but she did reveal that she recently pre-registered at the hospital where she hopes to deliver her first child, a son. "They asked me if I had [a plan]," she explained. "I said, the plan is he’s inside me, and he needs to come out…as quickly as possible." When the nurse looked at Vera like she "was totally unprepared," Vera returned home and began researching birth plans on the Internet. It was then that she discovered the practice of placenta eating. "I live with tree huggers and fairies…so it’s not so unusual in my neck of the woods," she said.

"In most cultures, other than ours, it’s respected as a tremendous life force, it has medicinal value…There are other things you can do with it. There’s, like, placenta art! They throw it up against a white piece of canvas, and it sticks. But I don’t feel malnourished, so I don’t think [I'll do it]."

Baby-on-the-way is also the first child for Vera’s husband Renn Hawkey, of Deadsy. Vera’s new film — The Boy in the Striped Pajamas — is in theaters November 14th.

I loved being pregnant too, however, she doesn’t know what she is in for those last 2 weeks.

    placenta art? eugh!

  3. MB Says:

I’m envious that she loves being pregnant so much. I think I’m much more similar to Gwyneth Paltrow!

  4. Jenny Says:

I love being pregnant too. I am eating my placenta right now (I dried it and ground it, but you can eat it raw too) as it can help prevent postpartum depression. This has been my easiest postpartum experience yet (third baby) and I attribute a lot of that to eating my placenta.

I think it’s different for each person and each pregnancy.

I LOVED being pregnant my first time too up until the very end. With my second, I loved/liked being pregnant (while chasing after one toddler). And now with three more days to go in my third pregnancy, I’m so ready for it to be over. It’s exhausting when you have two other children at home full time…not to mention, I just want to meet this little one already!!!
