Alison Sweeney Celebrates Her Upcoming Arrival

Eric Blackmon

The Biggest Loser host and Days of Our Lives star Alison Sweeney raked in the gifts at her November 2nd baby shower at the Treehouse Social Club in LA. But there was a twist — all presents were donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “It seemed the perfect opportunity to do something good and have a good time, too,” Alison, who’s expecting a girl with husband David Sanov on January 20th, told Life & Style at the bash, which was hosted by the Hot Moms Club, sponsored by BabyPlus and Huggies and decked out by decorator Jennifer Sbranti. The guests — who noshed on Sunflower Baking cookies and Crumbs cupcakes while sipping Bloom Tea and Izze drinks — included several of Alison’s Days co-stars, as well as her 3 ½-year-old son, Benjamin Edward.

Ali’s favorite gifts were cozy clothes from Bebabean, girly things from My Princess Closet, a Little Giraffe robe and blankets, and her pink Bugaboo stroller. Guestsleft with Hot Moms Club gift bags worth over $1500 and kids left withNational Geographic Kids swag bags as well!

Although Alison, 32, says she loves having a boy, she’s looking forward to getting her girl on with the new baby. “I love decorating her room with all this great girlie stuff,” she said. “I’ll be honest, I’m very excited about buying a princess dress. And the lip gloss and nail polish — it’s going to be so cute!” Don’t expect a name like Apple or Honor, though. “We’re very traditional,” said Alison. “We’re not at all interested in artsy, creative, trendy names.”

  1. Kelly Says:

Aww good for you Alison!!! Ben is so cute & its good to know theres still a few celebs whos kids wont have unique names

  2. claudiazz Says:

It is kind of refreshing to hear someone say they are going to name their child a traditional name. I think that we are on overload with cutesy names right about now!! I personally am “appled” out—LOL!!

  3. Beverley Says:

I appreciate that the gifts were donated to charity, but imagine what a charity could have done with the money it took to make all those $1500 gift bags.

Much better than a corporate sponsored baby shower would be if the corporations donated money to children’s charities in the name of the parents and the new baby. That wouldn’t be so tacky.

  4. Jen K Says:

MORE $1500 gift bags?? Why weren’t those donated as well? Over the top.

  5. Becky Says:

I have never gotten a gift bag “filled with goodies” at any of the showers I have been to! I need different friends! ;)

  6. fay Says:

why did she have to call out specific children’s names?

apple and honor are real ppl, and i think it is very tactless for her to talk abt CHILDREN in this manner… she wants to name her kid a traditional name, that’s fine, it’s her right, but to call out other ppls SPECIFIC choices on what they’ve named their children is wrong… especially because these are CHILDREN…

did moon unit, ahmet and the rest of the zappa kids get this much flack?

how abt summer, river, and joaquin phoenix… JEEZ why can’t ppl just name their baby’s whatever the hell they want…

  7. Emily Says:

Pregnancy suits her! She looks amazing!

  8. Sarita Says:

Must be so awkward to pose with all those products as if they are your favourite…

I agree about the giftbags, those are ridiculous. The value is probably 250USD as those prices are high because of the name not the product, so at least it’s less money wasted.

  9. Bren Says:

    I LOVE baby shower!! lol

Why do we expect for celebrities to donate everything to charity? I mean, if she wants to not donate something is ok too…is not only their responsibility to give because they are rich, it is all of our resposability! I mean if they want to keep some of the gifts, fine with me! if they want to donate the gifts but give the friends the gift bags, fine with me too. Does everyone on this blog donate everything at their childrens birthday party or at their babyshower? and dont tell me ‘we’ shouldn’t and they should because they make more money then us. Gosh she donated the gifts, let her give her friends the gift bags!! now that said, The St. Jude children hospital is my favorite organization to give to :)
I can’t wait to hear the traditional name her baby is going to have!!

Oh yes and I love that bugaboo!

  10. chloe Says:

since when is creative or unique a bad thing?

in my world those are positive adjectives.

  11. Ashley Says:

I love following her pregnancy! My son is 3 and am expecting our baby girl Jan 11th too. What a great shower with such wonderful gifts! I think it’s great she donated them to St. Jude.

  12. Stephany Says:

I agree with you, Bren. She donates gifts to the St. Jude’s center and seems to be “bashed” in a sense for not donate money, instead and letting her friends leave with goody bags! What’s up with that? I just hope people who are saying this are donating all your gifts (or MONEY!) to this charity or other charities…

Chloe, I saw nowhere in this post where Alison Sweeney said creative and unique names are bad. She says she’s “not into them.” Just as others may not be into traditional names. It’s all about preference. I do like unique and creative names but I probably wouldn’t give my child name such as Honor or Apple. I just prefer traditional names.

Anywhoo…I love these pictures. Alison looks so happy. I’m excited for her! :)

  13. Sara Says:

These photos are wonderful! Allison looks so happy, Ben too…what a cutie! The gifts bags were generous and I agree Sarita, she went above and beyond and shouldn’t be judged in any negative way for giving her friends gift bags!

  14. chloe Says:

i wasn’t referring to her comments specifically but rather the comments of previous posters in response to her.

i just think it’s strange to use the words creative and unique as negatives. not even just associated with names. i just found it strange. i’ve always thought of both of those things as positive.

  15. fay Says:

i resent that you didn’t post my comment, i purposely wrote it in such a way to make it follow the rules, it wasn’t harsh, it wasn’t rude, it TOTALLY followed the rules… i think u guys were being a bit restrictive on this one…

  16. Anne Says:

What charity organization receives all these new items and how are they distributed? I recall plain nighties and maybe an undershirt and light blanket but never anything fancy. If I bought something really special for a shower. I would want to know beforehand if the mother will keep it. Does Allison have enough baby girl stuff? Why bother with a shower, just donate to charity.

  17. Anne Says:

The majority of us are not rich and when we go or have a baby shower, it is because we buy things for the baby. I have no intention of buying baby gifts that I personally select for the mothers in need and then have them donated to charity. Why bother having a baby shower if the mother doesn’t need anything? I donate a lot of clothes and household goods to the needy that I don’t need anymore and that is enough.

  18. nicole Says:

you know… I think it is ridiculous that you all are making such a big deal about the fact that she donated things.. I know for a fact that the gifts she was opening was the gifts that were given to her.. she asked for the gifts her friends would bring to the shower to go to St. jude. She felt funny cause it was a 2nd shower and giving to st. jude is a great cause… they got lots of presents and both huggies and babyplus in the end were able to give over 5,500 to the hospital…

as for the gift bags… it might no the typical.. but these are companies that coudl not advertise necc. in other ways and they want celebs to have their product and hopefully buy more.. you would not be complaining if you got one… and you can win one life and style is giving one away.. and it is actually well worth over 2,000 they were just being modest!!!!!

  19. Melody Glover Says:

Congrates on having a baby girl. Hope everything goes well with you and ur family. ur fan Melody.

  20. Nancy Says:

God bless Ali for having respect for her future baby by not naming them something ‘original’(aka:stupid) like ‘Apple’ or ‘Sunday’

I appreciate a mom who doesn’t want her kid to be beaten up in the schoolyard.

  21. Nina Says:

Hey CBB staff! I was watching The Ellen Show this morning and Alison was on it and I THINK SHE WENT INTO LABOR!!!!!!!!!!!! or at least false labor!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. mbf Says:

She didn’t “call out” anyone in particular (that’s why that partis not in ” “), the writer of the article was the one who used Apple and Honor as examples.

Backlash like this is why some people don’t bother giving to charity anymore. Why not bother the people who sell pictures of their babies and then pocket the cash?

  23. T Says:

There’s a difference between “unique”, “creative” and “pretentious.”

Props to Ali for knowing the difference.
