Tamzin Outhwaite Didn’t Enjoy Pregnancy

After wanting to be a mom "for a long time," Tamzin Outhwaite says it would feel wrong to complain about motherhood now that it has arrived. Of course, with a baby like 4-month-old Florence Elsie, it doesn’t sound like there is much complaining to be had! "I’m absolutely loving being a mum," the 37-year-old actress tells The Mirror. "But I’m feeling guilty that it’s not as difficult as I thought it would be."
"Everyone kept telling me, ‘It’ll be the biggest shock, you’ll never have a night’s sleep again, your relationship will change.’ It does…Everything’s changed but, at the same time, nothing has. It’s like she’s always been there. She’s so easy. I imagine if she was a stressful baby it’d be different, but she’s good so far."
While Tamzin is loving new motherhood, the same cannot be said for feelings on impending motherhood. Although she had hoped to be an "earth mother type," Tamzin said she "didn’t feel like that at all" — and admits that she "didn’t really enjoy being pregnant." While she’s said previously that she’d like more children in the future, she’s in no hurry. "As soon as you’re in a relationship, people ask you when you’re getting married, then when you’re married people ask when you’re going to have a baby and now it’s like, ‘When are you having another baby?’ she laments. "Give me a chance."
"The novelty [of Florence] hasn’t worn off. Especially when she wakes up in the night and I go in there and she’s smiling at me. I’m still buzzing about that."

As she prepares for her return to the small screen in the UK series The Fixer, Tamzin is camera-ready thanks to pilates and a slow-and-steady approach to weightloss. She says unabashedly that she "did no exercise" while pregnant and ate whatever she wanted. As a result, she "put on loads of weight everywhere" and says her behind was "huge." When it came to her postpartum body, Tamzin was realistic about what to expect — and said she knew going in that she "wasn’t going to be the sort of person who sprang back into shape overnight."
"When you get to your late 30s, it’s natural that it’s going to take longer. For the first two months after giving birth I did nothing at all. My arms started getting back to normal, but the pregnancy belly didn’t go. It’s tougher to lose than if you’d put on weight normally."
Considering her body as a work in progress, Tamzin views her effort to reclaim her pre-baby physique as a marathon and not a sprint.
"I did it slowly and I’m still doing it. I’m not going to be a Gwyneth [Paltrow] and do two hours a day, because I don’t have the time or the inclination or the will. I set myself a deadline –- which is when I start filming the new series of The Fixer next week. I’ve been trying on costumes and I’m like, ‘Yeah, I feel OK.’"
Florence is the first child for Tamzin and the second for her husband Tom Ellis, who is already father to Nora, 3 ½.

I appreciate her honesty. She seems to be a very nice and realistic person.
