Chico Debarge Says ‘Sometimes You Have to Sacrifice’

As dad to six, Chico Debarge admits that he "feels bad" that his career in the entertainment industry used to require so much time that he had little more than a telephone relationship with his children, who range in age from 3 to 20. The 42-year-old R&B singer says that, as a result, he makes every moment count. "I realized that if you need to do that telephonically, the little times that you do have you need to spend that with your children," he explains to Black Voices. "That’s all I had to give, because I was giving to them in another area."

Noting that "sometimes you have to sacrifice," Chico says his new dual role as both a shareholder and recording artist for Kedar Entertainment should help him to be a more hands-on dad.

"Hopefully, with me being a businessman I’ll be able to sit back and take a break with just the kids and watch them sprout up and blossom."

Chico’s latest album, Addiction, is due in stores early next year.

   …and *I* can’t believe he has six kids! wow. I loved the duet he did with Tatyana Ali back in the day..Yesterday. Both of their vocals on that song are amazing.

   His older son is not 20. He is 24yrs old. He is a inspiring up coming model. He doesn’t a 3 yr old either. He only has 5 kids. Maybe there was a mis print.

   Per the interview at the source link, Chico says, “I have 6 kids and they range from ages 20, 14, 13, 11, 10 and 3.” Perhaps it is a misprint?
