I saw the Mortin advery yesterday and posted it on my online mothers group – most of us are “baby wearers” so needless to say we aren’t too happy about it – I hope Mortin pulls the advert and apologises soon.
That was a truly awful bit of advertising.

I wasn’t infuriated with the Motrin ad but I did think it was somewhat condescending and just a bad ad in general b/c I don’t think it did a great job of selling the drug.
I also think that Mandarin article was slightly disturbing. It’s one thing for Jessica Alba to teach her daughter Spanish really early on. I’m Brasilian and while I won’t speak only Portguese to my child when s/he is born in a few months, I will mix it in with the English. That has nothing to do with me wanting my baby to be “ahead” and everything with the fact that most of my family lives abroad and it’s practical for my kids to know the basics of the language, as my mom taught my siblings and me. I assume that’s why Jessica is speaking only Spanish to Honor.
I see that as being really different from paying almost $400 to teach your infant a language that you don’t speak at home, just to try to put your kid ahead. Yes, learning another language is great for both a child’s learning development and for the practical purpose of being able to communicate with more people. However, can’t kids just be kids anymore? Starting class at age 1 just seems a little sick to me.
