Brad Pitt Says Children Make Him a Better Man
Splash News |
When it comes to quirky toddler behavior, 2-year-old Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt might just take the cake. In excerpts from an interview airing tomorrow on The Oprah Winfrey Show, dad Brad Pitt reveals that despite his daughter’s unique moniker she responds only to ‘John’ or ‘Peter’ at the moment.
"It’s a Peter Pan thing. So we’ve got to call her John. ‘Shi, do you want …’ -– ‘John. I’m John.’ And then I’ll say, ‘John, would you like some orange juice?’ And she goes, ‘No!’ So, you know, it’s just that kind of stuff that’s cute to parents, and it’s probably really obnoxious to other people."
Brad says that each of his six children with partner Angelina Jolie have good senses of humor, describing them as "the funniest people" he’s ever met — even though "they don’t mean to be funny." Something else they hopefully have in abundance is patience, for getting up and going anywhere is no small feat. "It’s like a half-an-hour just to get everyone buckled in and make sure they’ve got their snacks, and Z.Z. [Zahara Marley, 3 ½] has got a blanket and Shiloh’s got her silky," he notes. Fortunately, Angelina is "militant" about organizing family outings, much to Brad’s relief!
"She’s right on top of it. Thank God, because I’m always forgetting something."
Calling fatherhood "a great mirror for yourself," Brad feels that the kids push him to be the best person he can be, across all facets of his life. "It really tells you a lot about yourself and who you are and how you react to things," he explains. "They make me better…They make me a better person as a father." They also, apparently, deserve credit for making Brad "hard as nails" when it comes to dealing with bodily fluids! "I’m impervious to poo, snot, urine, vomit," he jokes. "You can’t get me; You cannot break me down."
In addition to Shiloh and Zahara, Brad and Angelina are parents to Maddox Chivan, 7, Pax Thien, turning 5 this month, and twins Knox Léon and Vivienne Marcheline, 4 months.

Goodness, I know this is a lovely family but is anyone else sick of hearing about them non stop??! I am getting a little tired of hearing about Brad and Angelina.

Wow! They are so cute! But why don’t a lot of celebs get married before they have kids? Can someone help me with that one?!?! Well I love these stories- they are raising such nice kids!

LOL that was funny! This is for all the people who complain that never get to hear about Shiloh’s personality,

I love the videos, especially where Brad imitates Shiloh. “NO!” It’s cute.

Shiloh sounds like a great little kid and I can’t wait to see more pictures of Viv and Knox! Why aren’t Brad and Angie getting married though? Can someone please explain to me why stars won’t tie the knot? Well- I love this family and the kids are so cute ad adorable!

I can’t wait to see the entire interview. I have my DVR set to tape Oprah because I never watch her show. I can’t stand her but I’ll put up with anything to see Brad and hear him talk about his family!!!

That part about Shiloh not answering to her name and seemingly having “no” as her favorite word is just hilarious…and so normal. I have a few who love to say no in my house as well.
I’ll have to watch Oprah tomorrow to catch this interview.

I’m gonna write a little “disclaimer” here that I don’t want to argue about this nor am I trying to put anyone in the Jolie-Pitt family down. I’m only bringing up this past issue because someone else did first. This is simply my opinion (and I don’t think it’s offensive).
Jessica, I was one of those people and I’d like to think I’m pretty level headed. The way I saw it wasn’t that they loved her any more or less than the rest of the kids but they never wanted to focus on her (Just in the beginning, there was this really cute Angie interview where she said Shi is a little honey). But I also knew that with 4 kids you can’t always say something about all of them.

Can’t wait for this episode.
Shi is a typical 2 year old, LOL. “No” is their favourite word.
He was born to be a Dad. Thanks CBB for the vids.

My comment was directed to the people who would say things like, “How come Angelina talks about Mad, Pax, and Zahara and never talks about Shiloh…. blah blah blah.” I still think Shiloh is coming into the stage of having a fully developed personality and we can see that now that Brad mentioned the Peter Pan thing. No hard feelings.

natasha- I get the feeling that the reason why Angie seemed to not want to focus on Shiloh at first was because she didn’t want to make her sound more important than the adopted kids (I HATE using that term, but I couldn’t see any way around it this time.).
Obviously she knew the media was going to be more interested in her bio baby than her adopted kids, and she probably didn’t want to make Shiloh seem more special than them since the media already had her on a pedestal.
Perhaps someone else can explain it better.

My friend’s 3 yr old is convinced he’s Spiderman and won’t respond to any other name – so cute.

Brad seems like such an amazing and intuitive dad. I particularly love his comments because they convey that sense of wonderment that you have as a parent – I am constantly looking at my toddler and going, it is just amazing that he’s impersonating this person or making up funny faces to amuse me or – you know, whatever the latest antic is! Brad seems so relaxed and positive, I think he must be an amazing dad. I laughed at the description of getting the kids out of the house though – everyone I know who has more than 2 kids would totally empathise with that!!

I think it’s really sweet that Shiloh loves Peter Pan! In her book (Notes From My Travels) she mentioned that just before her first trip to Africa, her brother James gave her this message:
My Mom looked at me like I was her little girl. She smiled at me through her teary eyes. She is worried. As she hugged me goodbye, she gave me a specific message from my brother Jamie. “Tell Angie I love her, and to remember that if she is ever scared, sad, or angry – look up at the night sky, find the second star on the right and follow it straight on till morning.” That’s from Peter Pan, one of our favorite stories.

I love that part of Angelina’s book as well, stephanie. It was a wonderful read and I hope she publishes more of her journals.
It’s nice to hear Brad talk about his family. The little stories that he and Angelina tell are adorable, not obnoxious at all because I’m sure many of us can relate!

Shiloh sounds like she is beginning to come into her own, sounds so adorable.
The way I see the whole arguemnet about them not focusing as much on Shiloh makes me think of Nicole Kidman. At the minute Nicole gets persecuted for talking too much about Sunday and not her adopted kids, vice versa for the Jolie-Pitts. Can’t win I suppose.
November 20th, 2008 at 12:30 am
Daisy- ITA! In fact, that’s basically what I was trying to say in my comment. I think that Angie “held back” about talking about Shiloh at first because she didn’t want to overshadow Maddox and Zahara.
I’m sure she knew full well that any comments she made about Shi could easily get percieved the way that Nicole’s have been.
All of that said, this interview should clear up any confusion as to why they don’t always take all the kids on every family outing!

I agree, Brad was born to be a dad. The interview w/ Oprah really showed how much he loves Angie and their family. The stories, his wonderment is just exactly how a loving parent would react to a question. Being a dad has brought out the best in Brad. What a great little(?) family the Jolie-Pitts are.
