"My baby self weaned despite me trying to keep up the nursing! I find it so refreshing to hear Gwen talk about how hard she works to lose weight and keep herself in top shape. She looks great and has a beautiful family."

Mark Wahlberg on Lack of Celebrity Role Models

Mark Wahlberg tries to do the best that he can with everything in his life, but the one thing that he doesn’t want to fail at is being a father to Ella Rae, 5, Michael, 2 ½, and Brendan Joseph, 9 weeks. "I’m much more concerned with being a good dad and being there for them and teaching them and hopefully helping them avoid some of the mistakes that I’ve made," shared Mark in a new interview with Journal Live. Part of that includes being very strict when it comes to the types of entertainment his children are allowed to watch and helping them to develop good role models, which can be hard to do, according to the 37-year-old, since the family currently lives in Hollywood.

"We won’t stay there forever but it’s very difficult to raise normal kids in an environment like that. And I was thinking there’s no real role models for girls. You’ve got Britney Spears, you’ve got Paris Hilton; they’re nice enough people but I don’t want my daughter to aspire to be like that."

Mark has found positive role models for Ella after watching a HBO documentary about the United States’ women’s soccer team. The actor saw "all these girls following [the team] around and going to games and having somebody that’s a really positive person to look up to" and that give him hope for Ella. "Now my daughter is playing soccer. My son is dying to go to karate, but it’s fun."

Ella, Michael and Brendan’s mom is Mark’s fiancée, model Rhea Durham.

“Mark Wahlberg Laments Lack of Role Models for Daughter” ******************************What an insult to the woman standing next to you, you know your daughter’s mother. Not to mention Aunts, grandmothers, teachers, etc the people she comes in contact with everyday and can actually have a conversation with and who should be teaching her by example. Celebrities (singers, actors, sports stars) are there to be admired (maybe) but should never be idolized or your children’s role models.

I really like Mark’s attitude. He doesn’t bag Britney or Paris, but he simply says he wants his daughter to have strong role models. I’m glad that he doesn’t just want her to aspire to be like other Hollywood stars.

  4. Ara Says:

While he certainly has a point, I do think that role models should come from ‘real life’ – a family member, a community friend, someone your child actually has access to.

  5. Bancie1031 Says:

I love Mark’s attitude about his children. I do wish that we could see them more but I can understand why he shelters them from that life ….. I also like the fact that he realizes that Britney and Paris are role models for a lot of young girls but he doesn’t bash them as some have (as The Writer also said). I just adore this family! Thanks CBB for keeping us informed with the Durham/Wahlberg’s.
