Royal babies are given so many names because they usually have no surnames.

It's customary for royalty to give their babies three or four names (not including Spain though). All the names of the new baby are of family members - Pieter is his father's and paternal grandfather's name, Anton after his maternal grandfather, Maurits after his paternal uncle and Erik after his maternal uncle (not 100% sure about that last one, another report said that it was a Dutch war veteran)

I don't understand why they always need to give the children so many names. His name just sounds like a list of names!

Philippa, when you say the girl's full name it's actually longer than the baby's! I don't find it strange, 3 is already quite a lot...
