Pete and Ashlee Welcome Son Bronx Mowgli Wentz

Pete Wentz and wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz have welcomed their first child, a baby boy. Bronx Mowgli Wentz arrived on the evening of Thursday, November 20th in Los Angeles, Calif., weighing in at 7 lbs, 11 oz and 20 ½ inches long. In a statement, the couple’s spokesperson shares:
"Ashlee, Pete and baby Bronx are all healthy and happy, and thank everyone for their well wishes!"
"We’re thrilled. [Bronx] stayed up late the first night, smiling ateveryone who came into the room," Pete’s parents, Pete and Dale Wentz, told PEOPLE. "He already seems to have theindependence and charm of both of his parents."
Ashlee’s parents Joe and Tina Simpson released a statement Friday, saying, "We are happy beyond words and incredibly proud of Ashlee andPete. They are unbelievable parentsalready, and we can’t wait to spend Bronx’s first holidays togetherwith the whole family. We are truly blessed." Aunt Jessica adds, "Bronx is beyond precious. I’m over the moon with joy. Life is a beautiful miracle. Ashlee and Pete are healthy,happy, and enjoying every moment."
After a month of rumors, Pete confirmed the pregnancy in May, saying, "Every woman, no matter who they are or what they do for a living, hasthe right to wait at least three months before sharing this very personalnews. I apologize to anyone who felt misinformed but the truth is, the personand growing baby is who I felt most loyal to protect and defend."
The couple was out and about during the pregnancy, most notably appearing at the MTV VMAs in September. In recent weeks, Pete, 29, and Ashlee, 24, laid low as they awaited their baby’s arrival.

Finally! I’ve been checking this site several times a day to see when their baby would finally make his arrival. I knew it would be a boy after all the comments Pete made. And I’m not at all suprised by their choice in Bronx. Very quirky and unique, just like them! Congrats to the Wentz family!

I think its such a sin to name a child such an unusual name. I do like different names, and i do agree that zuma is an awful name, and just cant get use to it, same as this child, even the initials is tacky.

The only REAL problem I have with the name is the way Bronx Wentz sounds. But I actually like the name Bronx. It’s in the same vein as Brooklyn, as was mentioned before.

Bronx is possibly the worst celebrity name I’ve seen to date. I’m so disappointed that someone like Ashlee, who herself has a badly spelled, trendy name, would inflict that on her child. Don’t these people realise that the child isn’t an extension of their own egos – he’s a person who will one day be tired of explaining to prospective employers or colleges that “yes, my name really *IS* Bronx Wentz … yes, as in “The Bronx”" – I mean honestly!

She must have a thing for Disney movies…her wedding had an Alice in Wonderland theme and the baby’s middle name is from the Jungle book. I’m sure the baby will be adorable but I can’t say that I love the name but I said the same thing about Zuma and I can’t imagine him being called anything else. Congrats!

It’s an interesting choice of name. It reminds me of Knox a bit, although they’re quite different – just that X theme. Sort of seems like the celebs are trying to out-quirky each other! Maybe all these unusual names are just because they’re usually artistic types in Hollywood.

Alice and Wonderland is a Lewis Carroll book, not just a DISNEY movie, and the Jungle Book, is a story by Rudyard Kipling. Maybe she likes to READ….

Hmmm….okay. Interesting. I’m not really a fan of either name to be honest, Bronx is okay as a stand alone name, but I’m with Freya on that one, I’m not sure it flows. Bronx and Wentz are two very pointed names, they’re not what I would think of putting together. And Mowgli?! Wow, that’s one hell of a name to grow up with! I hope the little one is a Disney child as well! Although I’m also not totally believing this either, Pete has spent an unusual amount of time trying to lie to people about different aspects of the pregnancy (which seemingly hasn’t worked as some of you guys have figured it out about the sex!), it wouldn’t be much more of a stretch to imagine him telling tall tales about the birth!
I think I’ll take Bronx Mowgli Wentz with a pinch of salt for a while, but regardless, congrats to the couple, and to auntie Jessica, who seemed to be possibly more excited than the parents!

I, too, have been checking CBB often to see if Ashlee has given birth! Anyway, congrats to them! As for the name…I actually like it, and I didn’t think it was going to be Peter IV given the various comments Pete made about coming up with a name (e.g. that it would have to work for a rock star or a senator). Perhaps Ashlee was against naming their son Peter IV?
Also, I see your point Phoebe, but this statement didn’t come from Pete. It came from their spokesperson. In anycase, Pete himself has admit that he said various untrue things during the pregnancy to try and throw the media “hounds” off the scent.
If they had wanted to do that now, they likely just wouldn’t have confirmed the birth.
Anyway, Bronx sounds like a name they’d choose! Welcome to the world, Bronx Mowgli Wentz!

I think the name Mowgli is adorable. I don’t get the fuss about it.
Bronx however, I think, is a horrid name. I could not be more dissappointed. Calling a baby Audio Science, Pilot Inspektor, Zeppelin, Zuma Nesta Rock or Apple seems normal compared to that.
I’m very sorry, but I just hate it.
Whatever makes them happy I guess.
I never would have expected such a sweet Texan girl and a nice guy from Illinois to go for a bold name like that.

1. Bronx Wentz is hard to say.
2. Bronx? Have they even BEEN to the Bronx? If not, why would they name a kid after it? If so, WHY WOULD THEY NAME A KID AFTER IT?

4. Mowgli? Why do I get the feeling that they didn’t read the Kipling story that The Jungle Book is based off of? Why would you choose the name of a boy who runs around with animals in a loincloth?

I knew it must’ve been down to the wire because during FOB’s appearence on TRL, they recruited Adam Siska of the Academy Is… to fill in for Pete and play bass.

As far as the name goes, I think it could grow on me. Bronx has the “x” in it so, asside from the burrough, it’s in a category with Max, all three of Brad and Angelina’s sons, and Rex so who knows? Mowgli is cute considering I have the image of the little boy from the Jungle Book in my head.
I will agree with Elizabeth, though, and say that Bronx Wentz doesn’t exactly roll of the tongue, but oh well.

Bottom line: people can name their kids what they want whether we like it or not. However, a word of caution: it’s easy to think up some cool name for your kid but parents have to remember they are not the ones that have to live with the choice. I hope Bronx is a badass, he will need to be!

I see on another site that Pete has the middle name Lewis Kingston. Kingston, although it’s Gwen’s kid, would have been a great choice. I heard the news on the radio and I thought the announcer said Rocks and I was thinking, “A Gwen wannabe” because Zuma Nesta Rock. But glad to see that it is Bronx and not Rocks. But Bronx does sound like it is trying to Hard. Like Apple

I think people make too much of this “they will have to grow up with this name” stuff. Unique names are increasingly becoming the norm – and not just for celebrities. Friends of mine have told me about kids they know named Rogan (Rogaine?) and Alucard (Dracula spelled backwards….yeah). Having a terribly common name, I would have loved to change it, but that would be way too weird now.
He probably wouldn’t have too tough a time at a job interview when the interviewer’s name is Moses or Alucard

WENTZ: Ashlee claims to know a specific night when we were in New York. She was off her pill for two or three days before it happened.”
Perhaps this is where Bronx comes from!
I agree with a lot of the other posters that Bronx Wentz doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue. I’m eager to see photos of the little guy, though!

I understand trying to be different/creative with a name, but let’s fast forward a few years and imagine the possibilities for being teased in jr. high & high school. I know plenty of kids who hate their “original” names. Some have even chosen to use their first & middle initials as a nick name….but then again, that won’t work for Bronx.

Yes,they can name their child whatever they wish, but we all certainly know that kids are teased over just about anything. Their name choice may invite mockery – they had to have anticipated that. I might choose to name a child Honolulu Chewbacca, after the city of conception and my favorite Star Wars character. But, if I did, I would certainly not expect everyone to hold a straight face when I introduced that child.

Bronx Mowgli. Thats different.
Both names seem to be associated with India. Bronx stems from the surname of a Dutch man named Jonas Bronck/Bronk who traveled to India. The Bronx river and Burough were both named after him.
The surnam of Bronk stems even further from the name Brink.
“North German, Dutch, Danish, and Swedish: topographic name for someone who lived by a pasture or green, from Middle Low German brinc ‘edge’, ‘slope’, ‘grazing land’, especially a raised meadow in low-lying marshland. Mowgli of course comes from the Jungle Book and is a made up name. Altho many think it means Frog. Which I supposed goes well with Where the water runs deep. *lol*

Africhic, we are allowed our opinions, and I think it’s wholly unrealistic to expect that people will not have something to say about a name in any instance, let alone when it is as ‘out there’ as this one. Personally, I think this is the kind of name you look at and think it’s cute on a baby, little baby Mowgli is sweet, but as soon as that boy is at school, it won’t be so cute. As a teacher, I’ve seen some strange names in my time (Rover, Saint, Racer and Butterfly to name only four) and I know what this little one will face, and I don’t see it being any different just because his parents are famous. I used to really love unusual names, but seeing the teasing and bullying that is based on this has totally changed my mind. I’m also with the CBB-ers who don’t feel that the name flows, Bronx and Wentz are two quite harsh words. Congratulations to the family on the birth, but I can’t say I like their chosen name.

Kids are teased about anything and everything. Making fun of someone’s name is the easiest way to tack on a personal insult to a stupid empty one. I have a “normal” name (Erin) and was teased about it incessantly. (I went to French school…) Big deal. Kids should learn to grow some thick skin, and be respectful in turn– grow into the uniqueness of your name.

Ashley’s dad said that she became a woman the day she found out she was pregnant. Yet, her obvious obsession with all things Disney, & now saddling her precious child with this name are decisions that my 6-year old would make. As parents, aren’t we supposed to protect our children as best we can, and not thow them to wolves needlessly? Yes, kids can (and will) be teased over anything. Yes, it is shallow, stupid & empty. But that doesn’t change that it is also hurtful & demoralizing – especially to a young child. I hope Ashley will grow up in time to comfort Bronx when he is teased.

I’m so glad the baby was healthy and I think she was over due but I couldn’t wait for her to have her lil man! CONGRATS!!!! And I can’t wait to see pictures! I think Ashlee looked amazing while she was preggo. She deff had that preggo glow. & I absolutely love the name! I’m a big fan of odd different names so I love it! I wish them all well and just enjoy this time the first year they grow insanely fast! Don’t take it for granted. Luv u guys and again CONGRATS!

Bronx is cute (pronounced Br-on-ks?) – very similar to Knox (Angelina & Brad’s) and to Zuma (Gwen & Gavin’s). Not too sure on Mowgli…and not too sure whether the whole name (Bronx Mowgli Wentz) goes but its unique. Can’t wait to hear about the name’s origin!

The name is definitely unusual..I named my 11 yr old daughter Brooklyn (she goes by Brook, most of the time) I have had many people comment on her name…and a few that chose that for their own daughter! I may be biased though, I do not like the name Brooklyn for a boy!

Just to add to my last comment..in my daughters kindergarten class (6 yrs ago) there was a Boston, Cheyenne, Savannah, Madison, Charlotte and of course, my Brooklyn!!!
On another note, the name ‘Olive’ is starting to grow on me…but I cannot see myself naming my child that…yet!

Brooklyn is an actual name – that is also Donna Summer’s daughter names….. can be spelled Brooklynn as well as other variations…but Bronx – whats next Long Island, Staten Island, Queens, Kew Gardens… It is not as bad as Alabama or even Boston but still…..does it make it okay to name a child a “crazy”name cause you have millions???? I’m not saying everyone has to be Madison, Madelyn or Emily or Michael, John or Dylan but please…..
I am named Whitney and my sister is Sydney and those were not common in the early 80’s but I don’t and did not get made fun of because my name was just insane….

Snow, they had the names prepared upfront. She didn’t have anesthesia when they were choising the names.
I haven’t read the Jungle book but i know the story and I know how the book characters are seen as childhood heros (i had few, like Winnetou and for a long long time i want to name my children that)

what a coincidence!!! i knew me and ashlee were due around the same time, but who’da thunk we’d go into labor on the same day! i gave birth to my son this morning at 1:20 AM after being in serious labor all of thursday. great to know i wasn’t the only one dealing with labor pains yesterday, hahaha! congratulations ashley, pete, and bronx! great to share this joy with someone i don’t know, but i know how happy they are right now!!!

Well, it sounds like Bronx Mowgli IS the baby’s name. I don’t think that Pete’s father would lie about his grandson’s name! I also can’t see Pete or Ashlee asking their families to lie about something like that for them.
Also, I never saw any of Pete’s interviews where he said he’d name a son Peter IV, but…Is it possible he was joking about that?
Speaking of names…I didn’t know Pete’s mom’s name was Dale! Luckily, before commenting further, I had the presence of mind to look up the name on Babynames.com…and discovered that it is indeed a unisex name. I’ve just never heard of a woman named that, so it surprised me at first!
Anyway, you can tell that Pete’s and Ashlee’s parents are proud grandparents already! I wonder if Jessica and Tony will have a baby next.
If/when they do, I get the feeling they’ll have a girl. Anyone else agree?

Ha, I love the name Mowgli.
But why not Peter Lewis Kingston Wentz? You don’t have to call the baby “Pete” “Peter” or “Petey”
you could just call him Bronx or Mowgli, I’ve just always thought that If you’re a Jr or a 3rd or 4th it’s kind of
your “duty”, in a way to honor the name and give it to your son even if you don’t wish to call him that. I know Jrs that use completely different names, But I really do love the name. Especially Mowgli.

I love the name choice! All names like, Apple, Zuma, etc. The name becomes them very quickly. I’m sure he is adorable like his Mommy and Daddy!

I think I know why they named him Bronx Mowgli- because Mowgli in the Jungle book has masses of thick black hair and I think baby Bronx has too and since they have an obsession with disney, they named him that? Just an idea

I would just like to say congrats on the little bundle of joy but that poor little bundle has to grow up with a name that does not flow and will be picked on in school , I’m a mother of five who has two children with mis-spelled names and no-one can say them correctly, I feel bad on their choice of names that their little boy might come home crying like my child does, pregnant women beware your child has to live with what you name them!!!!!!

lisa oraff- Maybe Ashlee likes names ending in X like Angelina does? What about PETE and BRAD? Do you think they had no say-so in naming their kids, and that they don’t also like names ending in X (although I realize that Brad wasn’t in the picture when Angie adopted Maddox)?
Sorry, it’s just a pet peeve of mine when people seem to think that it’s only the mother (or the father in some cases) who likes/chooses certain names (and this pet peeve is two-fold with Angie, as people also tend to mention just her in regard to adopting more kids and things like that).

Generally naming a child is a combined effort, but some couples, one is far more easy going with the name choice.
But, in the case of Brad/Angelina, it’s very much a combined effort. I think since Maddox already had the “X” name, and Angie’s mom suggested the name Pax,the name Knox (who was Brad’s grandfather) just seemed to fit perfectly.
