Gavin Rossdale Admits Tour Time Away From His Boys is Tough
Andrade/Butterworth/Pacific Coast News |
The tides certainly have changed for Gavin Rossdale — where he often found himself reluctant to leave behind his dog and head out on tour with his former band Bush, the rocker dad now finds it difficult to leave behind his wife Gwen Stefani and their sons Kingston James McGregor, 2, and Zuma Nesta Rock, 3 months. Although Gavin will take Kingston on the road with him for a leg of the trip, he knows that it is near impossible to have him along the entire time and realizes that he will eventually have to succumb to his feelings of guilt. With the same feelings that often left him "silent, depressed, [and] down for a couple of days" when he left behind man’s best friend, the 43-year-old singer is prepared to experience the same — if not more intense — sense of loss without his two boys. However, making the separation worse, is Kingston’s ability to communicate to his father how much he misses him!
"It’s a bit sad. I’ve been away on different trips, and I ring home and speak to him. He’s just old enough now to speak to on the phone, and he says, ‘Daddy, get off the airplane.’"
Taking a "really evasive, really slippery" approach when it comes time to answer Kingston and Zuma’s questions on his bachelor lifestyle prior to having children, Gavin hopes to avoid the parenting methods of many of his fellow celebrities who "have a very shaky leg to stand on [when] they’re trying to sort of pontificate to their children." With years until his boys will want to hear stories of his rocker life, Gavin is enjoying the simple pleasures in life.
"Happiness, well, it takes many forms. So happiness can be anything from, you know, I experienced happiness this morning when I was on a step at 8 a.m. helping my son crayon on the pavement and eating toast and drinking coffee. I was really happy."

I’ve always liked Gavin, and he seems like a really good daddy.

Can’t he take Gwen and the boys with him? He’s such a sweet person! BTW, I didn’t know he was about to get on tour!
