Joel Madden Inspired By His Two Leading Ladies

After the birth of his daughter in January, singer Joel Madden not only became a first-time father, but experienced a new sense of inspiration for his songs: his girlfriend Nicole Richie and their new baby girl, Harlow Winter Kate. With his relationship with Nicole blooming, Joel finds many of his emotions have "definitely" spilled out into his lyrics, saying, "when you’re in love, you write songs about it."

From his days on tour with his band Good Charlotte to more recently his time spent at home with his family, the 29-year-old singer admits that after welcoming his daughter, his "whole lifestyle" has changed. Passing his time at home, Joel — whose "whole life is centered around [Harlow]" — finds himself sharing his music with the 10 ½-month-old who is "doing great [and] growing up really fast."

However, while Harlow may enjoy listening to her dad strum the guitar, the proud papa — who shares that "the only thing you really have is work and family" — reveals that she has also been spending her days surpassing her parents’ expectations! Joel jokes,

"[Harlow is] doing chemistry now."

Harlow is just beautiful. I remember when she was born, I was thinking ‘ What? Her name is Harlow?!?’ but now when I look at her, I can’t imagine her being anything else other than Harlow. It is her name, she owns it and it suits her down to the ground. Little happy baby Harlow Madden!

babyboopie- ITA! I also wasn’t sure about the names Zuma and Vivienne (oddly enough, I’ve never thought the name Knox was strange, as it fits so well with the other J-P kids names!). In Vivienne’s case, I’ve always liked the name, but at first it just didn’t seem to fit with the other J-P kids’ names.

However, now I can’t imagine her or Zuma being named anything else!
