Pete Wentz Dishes on Delivery Day and Daddy Duty

Paul Warner/WireImage

Shortly before Ashlee Simpson-Wentz gave birth to the couple’s first child last week, singer Pete Wentz briefly experienced intense sympathy pains that could have landed the dad-to-be in the hospital bed beside his laboring wife! However, calling in to On-Air With Ryan Seacrest, Pete, who was certain he was having a heart attack, shares that an "amazing" Ashlee — who is now viewed as "pretty much a saint" — calmed his nerves and "made sure I was okay" after she received her epidural. She then went on to deliver their baby boy, an experience which Pete found overwhelming.

"Natural things start going on in your body. My heart started beating really fast. You see your wife in all this pain and you’re like, ‘I don’t know what is happening right now!’"

After welcoming Bronx Mowgli Wentz, Pete reports that the proud mama was in awe the moment she saw her firstborn and could only describe him as simply "beautiful." Equally touched by the birth, Pete says the sudden rush of feelings for your child are indescribable. "Instantly in love, it’s impossible not to be," gushes the singer.

Taking the opportunity to address the countless comments over the couple’s name choice, Pete says Bronx Mowgli is "definitely, definitely" his 5-day-old son’s name and is confused by the public’s opinions. "I feel weird because all of these people have all these ideas of what it is now. But I don’t think anybody knows the real story of why or how," explains Pete. He adds,

"We came up with the idea Bronx. We’d been throwing it back and forth awhile ago. Rudyard Kipling is really cool and The Jungle Book is something me and Ashlee bonded over. It’s a cool name."

Click ‘More’ to find out why Pete is comparing his house to a new club in Los Angeles!

Reluctant to divulge all the details of his son, saying that "eighteen years from now" Bronx may be "like, ‘Oh, by the way, I didn’t want you to talk about that thing,’" Pete does admit that he is full-swing into father-mode, having already changed "quite a few…exploding" diapers. Between the diaper changes and feedings, the 29-year-old jokes that his household — which has been "kept sane" by the two grandmothers — has become the hot spot to be seen at — much like the grand opening of a club in Los Angeles. "Everyone is trying to get in every night. They’re like, ‘No, but I know Pete kind of’ or whatever. I’m like, ‘You do not have a plus one!’"

Looking forward to bringing Bronx out on tour with his band Fall Out Boy, Pete and Ashlee are prepared to spend much time beforehand orchestrating the ordeal. "He’s definitely going to come out on tour, but we need the whole team of stuff," laughs Pete. Until then, Pete is spending his time enjoying his new life as a father.

"It’s different when it actually happens. Your life is 100% different. Before [the baby is born] you’re like, ‘Oh yeah, I think [my life] is gonna have to be different. But now, you want it to be different."

aah bless…congrats again to the two of them! x

  2. D Says:

His comments are so cute! Congrats to the new parents!!! Pete and Ashley are so cute together.

  3. Brianne Says:

He sounds so proud! I’m so happy for them. They really seem down to earth and I can’t wait to see pictures of baby Bronx. I bet he’s adorable.

I love how he comments on the “exploding diapers.” My hubby said the same thing when our daughter was born. What’s the male obsession with baby poo?

  4. Jennifer Says:

    I hope baby didn’t have daddy’s head.

  5. kdj Says:

Aww! Congrats to them both. As far as the name goes, it’s not my favorite but also not my child. I grew up with a very unusual name – a boys name – and while I hated it as a child, I’ve grown very fond of it as an adult. There’s only one of me, and it makes it a lot easier for people to remember me!!

  6. Hannah Says:

Cool name? Really Pete? I still can’t like it I’m afraid. Not that it should or would matter to the family, JMO.

  7. babyboopie Says:

Haha. Cool interview but I seriously want to know why they named him Bronx!

  8. Erica Says:

I’m so happy for them. There’s just something about the two of them that just fits right. He seems so proud of both Ashlee and Bronx. I can’t wait to see pictures :D

  9. Onyx Jones Says:

Congrats to Ashlee and Pete. I’m sure little Bronx is adorable. I love the individuality of the name.

  10. tracy Says:

I love to hear a good story about how a dad gets involved with the birth. I also don’t understand why parents have to explain their choice for a name. Its THEIR choice.

  11. Shannon Says:

I love the name! I think it is so different, and yet it’s really not that weird, by comparison to other Hollywood baby names (ahem, Pilot Inspektor!). I so had them pegged for a girl though! They are so cute, can’t wait to see the little guy!

  12. MB Says:

Tracy ITA buuuuuut I love hearing the explanations b/c I’m always curious :-)

  13. Janet Says:

Congrats to the new mama and papa! Auntie Jessica is probably shopping for outfits as we speak! I remember Ashlee when she was a blonde haired actress!
Mowgli! I CRACKED up when I read that they named there son that because I used to tease my sis when she had a bad hair cut when we were kids that looked like Mowgli from the Jungle Book. Now in Pete and Ashlee’s case..the name fits—no teasing there!

  14. *Lulu* Says:

I think it’s great that the baby’s name has such signifigance to them… but I think parents should always consider how the child may feel about their unique or odd name as they get older (this reminds me of the actor who named his son “Peanut” recently) The name may be funny or cute now, but someone has to live with that name into adulthood.

If their last name was something other than “Wentz”, I guess I would think it sounded better. “Bronx Wentz” is quite a mouthful IMO.

  15. dani Says:

I wonder if either one of them has ever even been to the Bronx…

  16. Nausicaa Says:

I still say they could’ve chosen a better name. Why not Rudyard or Kipling? But nonetheless, they’re obviously good people and devoted parents and Bronx is a lucky boy.

  17. Jean Says:

Guessing our kids will grow up with a completely different perspective on the whole name thing! With kids like Apple, Peanut, Brooklyn and Bronx running around, it seems our kids won’t even think twice about all these unusual monikers floating around. Every generation gets more accepting and I, for one, think it’s a good thing.

  18. Ms.B Says:

They bonded over “The Jungle Book?” wowwww ok….I bet they borrowed that movie from Jessica

  19. Sammy-xx Says:

I like the name. I’m sure once we see him a few times we wont be able to see him as anything else but Bronx Mowgli.
I was just on Travie McCoys blog and he’s said the sweetest things about Pete, Ashlee and Bronx.

He’s also posted pictures of the cutest baby shoes.

  20. Tara Says:

I really don’t mind Bronx at all, but it just doesn’t flow with Wentz. I can’t understand if they were set on that name why they didn’t name him Bronx Simpson-Wentz, which sounds a hundred percent better.

  21. Kate Says:

I want to know who the baby looks like!

  22. CelebBabyLover Says:

I don’t understand why Bronx and Wentz not flowing together is such a big deal. I mean, how many times do people’s first and last names get used together in conversation? Not very many!

  23. mmh Says:

“I don’t understand why Bronx and Wentz not flowing together is such a big deal. I mean, how many times do people’s first and last names get used together in conversation? Not very many!”

In GRADE SCHOOL role call. That’s when. That’s why people should understand what they are naming their children.

  24. Naomi Says:

I don’t think it really matters to us what they name THEIR baby. Will you ever be meeting this baby or this young couple, doubtful… leave them alone and let them enjoy this moment with THEIR new baby. It is THEIR business and THEIRS alone. Be happy for them instead of being so judgmental.

  25. Sarah Says:

If they want to name their kid Bronx, then let them. He’s not your kid, so get over it. Glad to know you won’t be naming your kid that.

Let them enjoy their baby instead of saying how stupid you think the name is!

  26. CelebBabyLover Says:

mmh- When I was in grade school, none of my teachers ever used last names in role call (in fact, several of them didn’t even bother with role call, as class sizes at my school were small, and the teacher could tell just by looking and couting heads who was present and who wasn’t).

Even when there were kids with the same first name, the teachers just used their last initials to differintate between them (for example: John S and John D).

Anyway, Bronx will likely be going to school with kids with names like Apple, Pilot, Zuma, etc, so it he shouldn’t have too much of a problem. :)

  27. Donna Boucher Says:

i think Bronx is such a cool name, Congrats Ashlee and Pete
