Tom Cruise Thankful to Photographers For Priceless Shots of Suri
Most Wanted |
Since the beginning of their relationship, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have ignited a profound curiosity among the outside world regarding their romance, leading to a constant swarm of paparazzi documenting their every move. With the birth of their daughter, Suri, in 2006, and the months hiatus from photographers immediately after, the urgency to know more about the very private family grew. However, in a new interview with Grazia, Tom shares that despite the flashing bulbs and the never-ending paparazzi following, he is actually thankful for a virtual scrapbook filled with memories of Suri. "I have to say, those paparazzi shots of my daughter are incredible," says Tom.
Calling his 2 ½-year-old baby girl a "very open and warm child," Tom often finds it difficult to shield Suri from the spotlight as she would much rather walk down the street waving to her adoring fans. "She’s such a happy, fun girl," shares the 46-year-old actor. He adds,
"It’s certainly different with the media these days, but people have been very good to us and do give us space, so I am not going to be critical."
Along with photographing Suri having a play date with her mom at the park, the paparazzi have also managed to capture a "very determined" little girl often quite fashionable with her Bonpoint mary janes and her beautiful dresses. However, Tom reveals that — despite the couple’s continuous effort — they are met with a defiant Suri who much prefers girly frocks as opposed to pants. In fact, Suri even has a preference for the shoes she wears!
"Kate showed her these nice gold sneakers and she said, ‘They’re nice, Mommy, but they’re boys’ shoes!’ so she is very much a real girl. In fact, yesterday Kate finally did get her into pants for the first time…"

Balancing their responsibilities as parents with Tom’s movie careerand Katie’s "dream" of being on Broadway, the actor reveals that thecouple are not looking to have another child — yet! After months ofthe rumor mill swirling that Katie is already pregnant, Tom debunksthem all and says that after Suri was born the family — includingTom’s children Isabella Jane, 15, and Connor Antony, 13, with ex-wife Nicole Kidman — had "that precious time to enjoy together." While Tom and Katie will focus on their children and their careers for now, more babies are expected in the future, according to Tom. "Yes, we will have more children."

The paparazzi do occasionally get some great shots! Ones that the parents would probably love to have and display!
I think its cute how much of a girly-girl Suri seems to be…that at almost 3 years old this is the first time they’ve gotten her into pants! haha

A lot of people dislike Tom, but I quite like him. A friend of a friend knows his kids (through school) and they say they’re really nice, well mannered, etc. He seems like a great Dad!

I would love if people took really nice pictures of my kids all the time that weren’t set up. I wouldn’t like the paps on me every minute though.

Good attitude Tom! The paps aren’t going anywhere so make the most it, and enjoy the beautiful shots of your little princess!

Yeah there are some really great shots that paparazzis takes. I would like to have that too. Tons of beautiful pictures of my kids, everywhere they go. That picture of Suri is SO cute, it looks like she’s talking to the doll. So cute.

Tom’s positivity is so refreshing! I’m not a particular fan of his, but Suri does certainly seem to be a very happy little girl. He and Katie seem to be doing a great job with her, especially given the media situation

Tom seems to have a nice give and take relationship with a lot of his paparazzi. Usually I see him on videos or photos having nice chats with them, I guess that helps keep the stranger paps at bay.

I love Tom Cruise. He’s entertained us for years and I hope he will continue doing so for many more.

No doubt the paparazzi get some great shots but they are also very invasive and clearly make Suri extremely uncomfortable at times. More uncomfortable than any other celebrity child I’ve seen.
I just think Tom needed to be more careful with the way he worded his statement. The paparazzi are not something to be encouraged. Tom should have made it clear that there are limits and boundaries but he didn’t. I don’t know. This will probably be an unpopular opinion but it seemed like a strange thing for Tom to say.

I actually think Suri is the best child to photograph and look at because of her expressions. She’s such a ham! I think it’s great though that Suri isn’t scared of the paparazzi cause well no matter what they’re going to be there. I like Tom and Kate’s approach. Don’t make friends with them but don’t be enemies either…a nice in between!!
And as odd as Tom (imo) has become over the years I think he’s a really great husband and father!

I don’t care for Tom, but his kids all seem to be well raised and I agree with him that, despite the negatives to the press, they really do sometimes catch some amazing shots that you otherwise would never get of your kids.
I think it’s great he can see that and as long as the paps give space, I don’t have the issue with it I would if they were just constantly in the faces.
Of course, long-range lenses do help.

I don’t think he is thankful for the paps, does he say that anywhere? He just acknowledges that they have taken some great photos of his daughters. It’s probably the inly upside of being followed around by them!
I like that his attitude though, the paps are part of the package that come with a multi million dollar paycheck.

i find these statements to be quite disturbing. sure they’re a very high profile couple who no doubt have a beautiful daughter, but how can you be supportive of a group of men who crowd your two year in order to make money off of a picture of her? i’ve even seen videos where he waits for them to get enough pictures of her before he leaves and she seems more than over it by then. i just don’t get how this is being very protective of her? there are plenty of celebrities that try to avoid their child from being too exposed. suri didn’t choose to be born into this life. i find it very exploitative.

I think tom is a nice guy and a good dad. Great attotude towards the paparazzi too, and suri is a beautiful child.

Mandy- I don’t think it’s the paps that make Suri uncomfortable, since Tom pretty much made it clear in this interview that Suri isn’t afraid of the paps.
In fact, Suri is usually smiley and happy in paparazzi photos! As for the few times we’ve seen her looking uncomfortable, I’m guessing it was something other than the paps making her that way (maybe she was just having a bad day? Maybe she was just having a typical two-year-old meltdown about something? Maybe she was blinking because of the camera flashes, but wasn’t actually bothered by the paps?).
And I have seen other celeb kids looking uncomfortable in pap photos, Zahara Jolie-Pitt for one (that poor little girl IS afraid of the paps. Brad has said so mutiple times).

ashley anne, I completely agree! It’s disturbing to me.

“I don’t think it’s the paps that make Suri uncomfortable, since Tom pretty much made it clear in this interview that Suri isn’t afraid of the paps. Suri is usually smiley and happy in paparazzi photos!”
Actually, that’s not really true. Yes, there have been pictures of her smiling and happy, but there have also been many, many instances in which she was clearly upset by all of the attention (squeezing her eyes shut, covering her face and/or ears, even crying). It’s not just the flashes, either. She’s done this in broad daylight, and it hasn’t been just a “few” times. I don’t know why Tom said that the attention doesn’t bother her; he’s observed this himself. I even saw a video on TMZ of Suri crying as Tom, Katie, Ben Stiller and his family were all leaving a restaurant after dinner. The paparazzi were relentless, and Suri was obviously very frightened and upset. I agree with Mandy, Ashley Anne, and kayla. Tom’s comments on this matter are very troubling.

Stacy- I’ve seen more pictures of Suri happy than of Suri uspet (but then again, CBB and PEOPLE magazine are usually the only two places I go to look at celebrity baby photos, and both of them refuse to post pictures of upset children).
Of the ones I have seen of Suri upset, I’ve always been perplexed as to why people are making such a big fuss about it. For example, in one set of pictures, people claimed that Suri was covering her ears and trying to hide her face and was also “clearly upset”.
When I took a look at those pictures, Suri wasn’t trying to hide her face, nor did she look all that upset. She WAS, however, covering her ears, but I suspected (and still do) that that was because she maybe doesn’t like a lot of noise, no matter where or who it comes from.
In another set of pictures, she looked sleepy rather than tired to me. In still another, I thought she just looked like any normal, cranky toddler.
Since we aren’t there and thus don’t know the story behind those pictures/videos, I always choose to assume that perhaps something was already upsetting Suri before the paps showed up. and the paps just made it worst. Or maybe Suri was just having a bad day that day. I mean, come on, we all have bad days, and on our bad days, we probably look worse in photos than we do on our good days!
Anyway, obviously you and I have different opinions about this, so let’s just agree to disagree.
November 28th, 2008 at 4:35 am
I personally doubt that Suri is afraid of the paps. In most pics she looks extremely happy, and usually appears to “ham it up” for them. I would imagine she probably can’t remember life without them.
Someone commented about photos of her crying. How do we know she was crying because of the paps? She’s a toddler, she could have been crying for a variety of reasons.
Tom is criticized no matter what he says. If he slammed the paparazzi, some people would be up in arms and say it’s the price of fame and that he should quite complaining.
In my opinion, he seems to be trying to deal with a situation that will always be around his family, and is doing so in the most positive way he can.
I find it interesting that people act so offended by the paps. Yes, they often go too far, and I certainly don’t agree with that, but hello, where do you think most of the photos on this site come from? I for one enjoy looking at them, and I’m guessing most folks that visit this site do too, or we wouldn’t be here, right?
