Melissa Joan Hart Tells Mason That Santa is Watching!

Up until the last few hours of Christmas Eve, parents are often heard explaining to their children that their behavior will be the deciding factor on how many presents appear under the tree come Christmas morning: behave nicely and Santa will bring you lots of gifts, but misbehave and you may have none! While this unique method of bribery may not work for older kids, Melissa Joan Hart is finding that when it comes to her 2 ½-year-old son Mason Walter — who is just "starting to understand about Christmas" — nothing works better these days! Melissa explains,
"We have the ‘Good’ and ‘Bad’ charts, so he gets good and bad checks when he’s good and bad, depending on how many he has at the end of the month, he’ll get so many presents from Santa."
With their new charting system, the 32-year-old — who is also mom to 8-month-old Braydon ‘Brady’ Hart — shares that Mason is "just starting to pick up" on the benefits of his good behavior. Next up on Melissa’s plan to get into the holiday spirit? "We’ve gotta start with the movies like Frosty and all that stuff," says the actress.
Mason and Brady are Melissa’s sons with her husband, Course of Nature rocker Mark Wilkerson.

We’re doing the same thing. Other day children were messing in the kitchen and I just stated: “Santa’s watching you!” And they were like: “Sorry, sorry – I didn’t even throw it on the ground, it fell accidentally!”

Aw, not good and bad, I think it should just be check or no check (or erased check)
My little bro confessed to us later that he always thought my folks meant HE was bad when he was scolded for doing something that was bad. Wouldn’t want a little kid to get that confused:)

Aw, we do reward charts ourselves but I never wanted to turn Santa into a police officer. We teach our kids that Santa Claus is a good man who makes sure poorer children get at least 1 toy for Xmas, and might bring our family a few special surprises if he gets the chance – as I don’t like the whole expectation of ‘how many presents am I going to get’ thing myself. I personally think that giving and receiving at holiday time should not be conditional on behaviour but a joyous celebration. I am glad they have found something that works for them though!
