Philip Seymour Hoffman Welcomes Daughter Willa

Update: The baby’s name is Willa, Philip shares. “It’s three kids now and I’m very tired,” the new dad laughed. “I’m a little lost in my brain.”

Originally posted October 22nd: Academy Award-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman and his partner, Mimi O’Donnell, welcomed a baby girl Friday night, October 17th. No further details were released about the couple’s third child. Philip was scheduled to appear Sunday evening at the sixth-annual Celebrity Charades benefit for New York City’s LAByrinth Theater Company, where he is co-director, but his plans almost went awry. “Philip Seymour Hoffman is going to be very late,” the event announcer shared with the crowd. “Just two nights ago, his family grew a little larger.”

When a reporter from New York magazine caught up with the actor at the event, he admitted he was a touch flustered. “I’m a little out of my head. I had a baby two days ago. A little girl,” he said. “Dad duties. Everyday life stuff is pretty overwhelming.”

The new baby joins the couple’s son Cooper Alexander, 5, and daughter Tallulah, 23 months. Philip and Mimi announced the pregnancy in September.

   I LOVE LOVE LOVE the name Willa! Old fashioned but it still sounds modern. Good call Seymour-Hoffmans!

   Willa is not a name you hear very often these days. Congrats to Philip, Mimi, Cooper and Tallulah, and I like Philip’s sense of humor. Having three kids, especially when they’re so close in age, is definitely exhausting.

   I love the name Willa as well as Cooper and Tallulah…and am right in the thick of having three children in the same ages: 6 weeks, 2.5 years, and our oldest will be 5 in February. It’s tiring but so worth it!
