Tom Cruise on His ‘Nomadic’ Family
NY Team/Most Wanted |
Proclaiming “I love being married,” Tom Cruise’s devotion has been on full display for the duration of wife Katie Holmes‘ Broadway debut in All My Sons, which he admits to having seen “more than 20 times.” The couple’s 2 ½-year-old daughter Suri has also become a familiar face at the theater, albeit behind the scenes! “Suri goes to hang out in the dressing room,” says Tom. While in New York, the family have been staying in Tom’s former Union Square bachelor pad; The close quarters suit the 46-year-old actor just fine, however.
“It’s small, but we’re snugglers. We’re all on top of each other.”
Describing his family as “nomadic,” Tom needs to look no further than his two children with ex-wife Nicole Kidman for proof that raising kids on location can be successfully done. Of Isabella Jane, 16, and 13 ½-year-old Connor Antony, Tom notes,
“They’re home-schooled, so they can travel wherever we are. They’ve been raised on sets and in makeup trailers.”

I have no doubt their children are loved but how can being raised in make-up trailers and on movie sets be good for these kids?

Joanne- Likewise, what’s so bad about that kind of lifestyle? It may not be the one you prefer for your kids, but that doesn’t mean it’s neccesarily bad. Obviously the kids do get their education, as Tom has mentioned that Bella and Connor are homeschooled. Bella and Connor have also both been seen playing on sports teams, so chances are good that they have friends.
Likewise, Katie has mentioned taking Suri to music class, and she has been pictured taking her to art class as well. Presumbly there are other kids there, and Tom and Brooke Shields have both talked in the past about how Suri and Grier sometimes have playdates.
I feel that as long as the kids have a good education and friends, it’s fine for them to travel around with Tom and Katie. I actually like that Tom made that comment, as it seems to confirm that Bella and Connor are with him, Katie, and Suri more than is publically known (as opposed to staying in LA while their father, stepmother, and sister travel). At their ages, they’re probably experts at avoiding the paps when they really want to!
