Actress Salma Hayek toted daughter Valentina Paloma, 15 months, around Los Angeles on Friday as the two hit the post-Christmas sales at Neiman Marcus. Salma’s mother, Diana Jiménez, was on hand to look after Valentina, too. Though the family left empty-handed, we’re hoping Valentina got some cute gifts during the holidays!
Valentina is Salma’s daughter with ex-fiancé François-Henri Pinault.

I saw on other sites pics of her smoking in front of her daughter…horrible!

I saw her smoking too in other site, I think is bad if she still brestfeeding Valentina, and as bad as smoking in front of her. I am nobody to judge as I smoke sometimes, but I don´t do it in front of my child, inside a place or outdoors, I think smoking is something kids shouldn´t smell or watch. BTW I am trying to quit, is my New Year resolution

Supposedly Salma’s mother was watching Valentina while she smoked. Still think it’s ridiculous and tasteless, especially if she’s still breastfeeding.

Valentina is beautiful, she has the darker hair, eyes and complexion of her mom, but her dad’s expression. She’s a beautiful child, and salma is beautiful. I’m thinking if she is smoking, she is no longer breastfeeding.

Can smoking harm a baby through breastmilk? I just wonder since the toxins are inhaled, not ingested like alcohol.

She was not holding Valentina while smoking. Her mother or some other woman was holding Valentina several feet away from Salma. It has long been known that Selma smoked, she has said before she started during the filming of Frida, which was a few years ago. They were outside, not cooped up in a car.

It is clearly from the same day as this. I feel like she is flaunting it, or at least just doesn’t care. I know that we are all flawed, but she has slid in my esteem. Not that it would matter to Salma!

I too saw those pictures…even if she isn’t breastfeeding what about second hand smoke? Also the baby was with BOTH her and her mother outside…she was still close enough to her daughter for her to inhale the smoke!

Best of luck to you Angie! Second hand smoke is deadly. I lost my mother this year to second hand smoke. My father the Cardiologist (go figure) smoked 2 to 5 packs a day before he succumb to a massive heart attack in 1985 they were married 15 years. My mom was on a heart transplant list, even had a LVAD. She just got sicker and suffered a stroke. She was only 61 years old and never smoked. Her parents are alive and very healthy, well into their 80’s. My parents worked together at a major hospital. I remember in the 70’s going to work with them. I also remember patients and doctors including my father smoking either in the ER or the patients room. Glad things have changed! People sometimes think it wont happen to them. But in reality know one knows.

Crimpe, you are wrong. In the photo you have linked to, Valentina is not in a stroller. What you see is Salma holding her purse with smoking. Valentina is a few feet away, being held by her grandmother- hence the arm/hand on Valentina.

heymisterwilson: So are you saying that Salma is holding the unlit cig in her mouth just for kicks? I highly doubt she had no intention of smoking it.
As a smoker myself, I can’t harp on her habit except for the fact she is doing it in front of her daughter. And in the photos other posters have mentioned she is in close proximity to her child, close enough anyway.

they are outside! it’s not as if she is in a car with her or something. a whiff of smoke will not hurt the baby. geez. if you live in a city or feed your kids processed food, your children will be much worse off. give her a break. honestly, i don’t even think it is lit.

Colleen and heymisterwilson, I am not wrong. Go to the series of photos. You will see her root through her bag looking for her lighter while holding onto the stroller as cutie Valentina toddles in front of her and Salma’s mother sits. She is clearly puffing away. So what if Valentina is no longer in the stroller? It’s a bummer.

i would hate to be a celebrity mom! all the critics from people you don’t even know… and just for a pictures representing one second of your life!
“look at her she’s smoking around her baby”, “that kid should not be held that way”, “can’t she put a jacket to her kid?”… oh and the worst of all “she doesn’t seems very motherly to me and that kid never smile”.
i love seeing celebrity with their kids but i would not judge them for anything. plus your kids seeing you smoking is not bad parenting , it’s life. i have see a lot of kids trying to imitate their parents by taking something like a pen and miming the act of smoking. it’s doesn’t mean the parents encourage that and by the way the kids are very prompt to tell their parents how bad it is to smoke.
No wonder some of them got crazy!

Smoking is just one habit that I hate, hate, hate. I’m sorry if I come off judgmental or whatever but it I don’t like people who smoke, plain and simple. It’s a disgusting habit that we all know the dangers of and how addictive it is, so why start? I don’t understand it.
And, frankly, just because she’s outside doesn’t mean she’s free from secondhand smoke. In the picture I saw, Valentina was close by. Just yesterday, I was going to my car after lunch and there were smokers close by and I got a nice, big whiff of what they were smoking. I’m not saying Salma is a terrible parent or a terrible person. I just hope that she doesn’t smoke around her daughter. And I REALLY hope she isn’t breastfeeding!

I too saw the pictures that some of you are commenting about and had a very negative response to them. What surprises me (even more) is that a few of the ladies here that are posting, are defending her smoking! Whether she’s inside or outside, 3 feet from her daughter, holding her, or 20 feet away, this is still a horrible, dangerous habit. This generation of parents, my generation, knows enough about smoking and second-hand smoke to know that it should not be done. Period. It harms you and it can harm others. Stop defending her! Support her in an effort to quit smoking.

I was under the impression that the chemicals from smoke don’t leach into breastmilk the way Alchohol does?
