Jim Threapleton Creates a New Future For Mia Honey

As he awaits the birth of his second child Jim Threapleton has much to be grateful for, including that his first child — 8-year-old Mia Honey, with ex-wife Kate Winslet – has two loving families who peacefully co-exist. “I think the assumption was that there’d be vitriol between Kate and me for years,” Jim says. “But there isn’t, and there hasn’t been.” The relationship between Kate, who has since married director Sam Mendes, with whom she has a son, 5-year-old Joe Alfie, and Jim has evolved to a point where the former couple have “gotten to that good stage of friendship.” The evolution is no accident and instead required hard work from all involved. Explains Jim,
“Sam and I went out for a few beers together very early on to make sure there was no stand-offishness. No one wanted a situation where I’d pitch up in a car and honk the horn and wait for Mia to be delivered. There was a very amiable attempt to find a new future for all of us, which isn’t an easy thing to do, but I’m proud of what Kate has done with Mia and what we do collectively.”
Praising Sam as a “fantastic person to be in Mia’s life,” Jim can now turn his attention to the baby — a delivery surprise — he expects with wife Julie in “a few months.” Julie, a special needs teacher, adds,
“We haven’t found out the sex of the baby, but everything is fine and this is such an exciting time for us. We are very happy and everything is going great.”

I love it when divorced couples are amicable for the sake of their children. I like that Sam recognized that it was hard work for all of them, but they did it.

I commend Kate and Jim for their commitment to keeping a close relationship for Mia. I grew up in a situation where my dad would “pitch up in a car” and be delivered and it was awful.
I love to hear things like this, yet I would expect no less from Kate Winslet, she is the epitome of class.
I also loved hearing Kate Beckinsale’s similar tale the other day, I just think Lily Mo and Mia Honey are going to grow up to be so well adjusted, even with parents in the spotlight, they seems to have such great families.

I often wonder how much better things would be if more divorced parents were able to co-parent amicably like Jim, Kate and Sam & Kate, Michael and Len. It really makes me feel optimistic to hear stories like this.

I think it’s so sad that so many marriages end in divorce, and it seems, although it may not be reality, more so in celebrity couples. However, it’s a wonderful thing that so many high-profile couples are making such an effort to be amicable and work together for the good of the children. (That’s not to say that “low-profile” families shouldn’t be doing the same thing–just that it’s a good example that otherwise might not be seen or heard about.)

It’s so nice to see that couples can make the best of a bad situation like divorce and learn to put their kids first. I grew up with divorced parents who didn’t speak to each other, so I know that’s not a great situation. I applaud those like Kate and Jim who are able to make it work so well.

I love hearing stories like this.
I grew up in a terrible environment where my parents fought in front of us all the time and their divorce was ugly. My dad refused to pay child support and we were a “pick you up at the curb” type of family because my dad couldn’t seem to get along with my mom.
So it’s nice to hear that SOME adults can actually act their age and be nice to each other. Very awesome!
