"I was too emotional [when I was pregnant]. I cried at the drop of a hat. It’s Hallmark commercials, it’s anything you could possibly imagine. Not even Hallmark. It’s a coffee commercial, and they pick up [the cup of coffee] and I’d go [crying] ‘Ooooh, it’s coffee!’"

Liev Schreiber Marks the End of ‘Me Time’

Calling self-exploration “one of the luxuries of being an actor,” Liev Schreiber has made no secret of his love for the craft. Fatherhood has trumped career for the 41-year-old actor, however, since welcoming sons Samuel Kai, 4-weeks and Alexander ‘Sasha’ Pete, 17 ½-months. “Remember that voyage of self-exploration I was talking so fondly about just then?” he says with a laugh in a new interview with the Times Online. “Well it just ends. You go, ‘Awhh sh-t! No more me time!’” Liev goes on to admit that the rigor of caring for two kids under the age of two with partner Naomi Watts has indeed taken a toll.

“I am struggling, though. It’s f-cking hard. So little sleep. It’s 23 hours and 59 minutes of exhaustion.”

Fortunately, Sasha and Samuel know just how to keep their sleepy parents going. “They do one little thing in that last minute that is just so compelling and fascinating that it makes the other 23 hours and 59 minutes worthwhile,” Liev says.

Liev’s new movie Defiance is in theaters January 16th.

haha!! i love this guy. no candy coating from him :)

  2. Nina Says:

I love how honest he is…it’s refreshing. Parenthood is the hardest thing I’ve ever done and it feels good to know other people(even celebs)struggle with it to. I think I have officially become a fan.

  3. Nika Says:

I also think it’s great that he is so honest, because many people make parenthood sound like it’s all fun. Of course it is the best thing in the world, but also the hardest at the same time. I totally understand what Liev is saying!

  4. kaya Says:

I want to be Naomi Watts.

  5. Emaline Says:

Soooooo true! I like the way he puts it :)

  6. mary Says:

Nothing wrong with saying the truth. Boy do I remember those days like it was yesterday. Wait it was yesterday;)I just keep telling myself that I will get caught up on my sleep in 15 years when the youngest(out of 4) is 18. I will have to pray hard that the oldest who just turned 16 doesn’t have children at that time. I would like one year of good sleep!

  7. Molly Says:

I love him too and id love to be Naomi as well… except I probably (i mean definitely) not use the work f… when it comes to children, as someone who has been struggling with infertility for years and years, it breaks my heart that people use these words and/or complain when they were so lucky to have the children.
I hope though he will realize what a blessing he has at home !!!

  8. babyboopie Says:

I’m sure he does realise the blessings he has! It’s just that at times, having a baby is very difficult and a lot of mothers can relate to!

  9. mary Says:

I hope my comments did not offend you Molly, it breaks my heart when I hear people are having troubles conceiving. Not a day goes by that I don’t forget to thank GOD for my children. It took us 7 years to conceive our third child. I had to have major reproductive surgery and 4 feet of my colon removed. Our fourth was a bonus. I can honestly say they are a blessing. But they are also exhausting, and frustrating. And I would NOT change a thing! I wish you luck!

  10. Jane Says:

I don’t have any doubt that he doesn’t realize how blessed he is; when he was talking about the fascinating things they do that make it all worth it, if anything, I got the impression that he is totally smitten with his boys. I figure he was using the curse just to emphasize how hard it is to be a parent, but I don’t take it to have anything to do with Sasha or Samuel.

Anyway, I love this family! Naomi and Liev sound like great parents.

  11. Dena Patton Says:

Me Time is a rare thing, especially with kids. You have to find a way to take care of yourself too or there won’t be enough of you to go around.

  12. Anna Says:

Of course he realizes how lucky he is, that doesn’t mean you can’t “complain”. I like that he is honest about it being hard.
Even people that have struggles with infertility and manage to have children in the end will have days that they “complain” or think it’s f-cking hard.

  13. sally Says:

Is it just me, or does it seem like he’s always overwhelmed? I appreciate the candor, it’s just rare that someone is so honest about it. Makes me think that everyone else just puts on a good show.

  14. Emma Says:

Sasha is such a beautiful boy, can’t wait till younger brother Samuel grows up a little so we can see his face. Sasha looks like a male version of Shiloh.
