Cate Blanchett Calls Parenthood ‘The Ultimate Expression of Hope’
INF |
She’s observed previously that she and husband Andrew Upton make cute babies, and now Cate Blanchett again suggests that their family of five could continue to grow. When asked by the Times Online whether she’d like to try for a fourth child, Cate answered definitively “yes;” When asked if that decision is rooted in a desire to have a daughter, she was quick to clarify, “not necessarily, no.” The 39-year-old actress — already mom to sons Dashiell John, 7, Roman Robert, 4 ½ and Ignatius Martin, 9-months – adds,
“It’s the ultimate expression of hope, isn’t it, to have children.”
Her comments came in London, where she was promoting her new film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. The children were asleep in a hotel suite upstairs, with Dashiell and Roman cuddled together in a big bed as Iggy snoozed in the bathroom. Life on the road would be a novelty to most children, but Cate says she keeps indulgences like room service to a minimum. “Look, you can’t be friends with your children,” she explains. “On a film set, they can be so indulged, you need to draw the line.” To that end, Cate says that she’s been careful to only accept roles that will pose the least disruption to her family as a whole. “The release of a film has a lot of travel demands, and there’s a practical concern with children: where is it being shot, how long am I going to be away for, will it work with the children’s holidays,” she says. Asked whether she’s a good mom, Cate replies,
“I’m incredible. They love me so much, they kneel by their beds every night.”
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button is in theaters now.

I just adore her…someday she will play me in the movie!! I had to laugh that they spelled her name right in the first paragraph, but wrong in the second.
I almost named my son, Dashiell.

“When asked if that decision is rooted in a desire to have a daughter, ”
I have 3 boys and I hate that people assume we had a 4th to “get a girl”.
In the end, we did have a girl and we are thrilled, but it was amazing how people would express such relief that it was not a 4th boy- in front of our boys. I had to explain to them that we were thrilled which each one of them, and if she had been a boy we would have been over the moon too.
Anyway, cate Blanchett seems like a wonderful mother to her boys, and I am sure she would be a wonderful mother to any child she is lucky enough to have.

She is hilarious!
I don’t know why people get so worked up about that “do you want a girl/boy?” question? I think it’s just natural curiosity, and I think, in general, although not always, of course, most people would enjoy having both in their family. We have 2 boys, and are expecting a “delivery surprise” in April. I’d love to have a girl, but, will love a boy just as much.

Love her…she is an amazing actress, intelligent, funny & down to earth…not to mention gorgeous! More actresses should aspire to be like her.
