Michelle Monaghan: Motherhood is a ‘Profound Love’

She’s starred onscreen with Tom Cruise, Patrick Dempsey and Shia LaBeouf, but Michelle Monaghan said those films don’t hold a candle to her new part – “the role of mommy.”

The Eagle Eye and Made of Honor actress, 32, gave birth to daughter Willow Katherine on November 5th. Three months later, “every day feels like Christmas,” she told PEOPLE. “It’s such a profound love. A couple of weeks ago I saw her discover her own toes and she wiggled them and her eyes got really big.”

Michelle ventured out on her own for a New York City amfAR gala Feb. 12. Leaving Willow at home in L.A. with husband Peter White was difficult for the actress. “It’s my first night away from her,” she says, “and I imagine I miss her more than she misses me.”

Just three months after giving birth, Michelle zipped herself into a sample size Louis Vuitton dress and donned four-inch heels for the amfAR event at Cipriani 42nd Street. Her body after baby secret?

“Honestly, I started working out after two-and-a-half months,” she says. “I have a trainer. I’ve just been lifting weights and breastfeeding. And I eat really healthy and a lot, because I’m breastfeeding … always organic. I frequent Whole Foods. I never really cared so much about my diet until I got pregnant and had a baby.”

And when will Michelle return to the screen? “I’m taking some time,” she says. “Looking at some [projects], but enjoying being in the role of mommy.”

No wonder people are crazed about weight. I really don’t see why People had to include that she zipped herself into a sample side.

Say she looked great, beautiful dress etc…. but the preoccupation peoople have about weight, whether pregnant, post-preg, or just anytime is due in large part to the media. On one hand, many of the mags write all these stories about the publics and Hollwood’s preoccupation (no wonder since it is so dissected and discussed), but then on the other hand they write endless articles about such and such gaining, such and such losing.

While I am thrilled for Michelle and her daughter, I must add that I work in the entertainment industry and have met Michelle in person and she is extremely thin. Being on camera does require a very svelte figure, but I hope she kept a few of the pounds she put on with her pregnancy. Sample size designer dresses are even smaller than what ends up on the rack, and I wonder how much time she had to spend away from her new daughter at the gym to achieve that level of weight loss in that amount of time. It’s a little shameful, even though it is part of her “job” to be small. Just my humble opinion…

I agree with Betsy– I don’t understand why People included the sample size dress info.. it’s quite irrelevant but then again it does not surprise me.. they do everything to make new moms and women in general feel awful about their body. pretty sad.

  4. Brandi Says:

Umm. I guess it’s just me but I don’t see the issue. If someone shows up looking skinny and smashing in a great dress and 4 inch heels three months after having a baby, I know I want the details.

Anyway, it sounds like Michelle is enjoying her baby girl. Great name she gave her, I love it.
