Actor Simon Pegg has revealed that he and wife Maureen McCann are expecting their first child in June. Following the Brit Awards on Wednesday, the 39-year-old opened up, revealing, “‘My wife is five months pregnant. We haven’t announced it yet as we want to keep it hush-hush.” Now that the couple is sharing the news, Simon couldn’t hide his excitement. “I’m really looking forward to it,” notes the actor. “It’s going to be amazing.”

While he is “hoping for a baby girl,” he admits that “I really don’t mind what we have” and that the couple is “thinking of having it in America as the baby will then have dual citizenship.”

Simon has some experience with children as he is godfather to Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s 4 ½-year-old daughter Apple. The Shaun Of The Dead star and Maureen were married on July 23rd, 2005.

YEEES! Finally! I think it’s so cute that he’s hoping for a girl, since you kinda think that a man always is hoping for a boy. Congrats!

Nothing like a few zombies for the offspring of Shaun of the dead.

  5. Devon Says:

Hot Fuzz is one of my favourites! Congrats to Simon and his wife!

  6. Loumin Says:

Im so pleased for Simon and Maureen! I’ve always been a massive fan of his work and subsequentally one of the only names my partner and I could agree on for a girl was Daisy (one of the main characters in his ‘Spaced’ series) and that she was called. although I did meet him when Daisy was about 3 months old and felt like a bit of geek when I introduced him to my daughter! ha-ha! Can’t wait to see pics of this little one! xx

  7. Julie Says:

I too admire him for wanting a girl! With women I sorta think they don’t mind what they have but with men they tend to want boys. That’s so sweet of him!!

  8. happytimeladies Says:

I don’t understand women. They complain like no one’s business when people prefer a certain gender but here they think it’s cute. Why? Shouldn’t you be offended that he prefers one gender over another? Shouldn’t you worry that if he has a son, one day that boy will feel unwanted because his dad wanted a girl? Shouldn’t you complain that he should just say he wants a healthy child and keep the gender preferences to himself since so many people can’t have kids at all? These are all arguments used about why other gender preference comments are so insensitive. I’m confused one why his comments are ok but posters jump all over other celebrities?

I personally don’t care if people have preferences. It’s human nature to feel and express such things when expecting a baby. I just don’t get why it’s ok here but other times it’s such a big deal? My theory is sexism. Because a man wants a girl, it’s ok but, if he wanted a boy, he’s a jerk. I’m not sure why women who state their preferences are attacked except that some infertile women think all other women should just be grateful to be able to breed. Whatever. I love Simon and I like that he’s honest. If a celebrity is going to speak to the press about such things, it’s refreshing to not pander. I just hate the double standards that come from posters on this site.

  9. Anais Says:

I love Simon so much! He is so funny and seems like a really sweet guy. Congrats and good luck to both of them!

  10. NELLA Says:

Congrats!! I love Simon he’s sooo funny…I personally wouldn’t care if he said he wants a boy some people have a preference and that’s fine. I think it’s just really sweet that he said he is hoping for a girl since most men do hope to have a son especially as their first born. It’s just kinda rare you hear that so in a way it’s refreshing. If we’re going to be honest in most part of the world boys are more preferred over girl children which I don’t think is right, I don’t know why this is since I think every child is a blessing whether it’s a boy or a girl. Anyways my point is a child’s preference is a personal choice which is fine with me, in my opinion it’s just nice and refreshing that he said he wants a daughter. Whatever they have I hope it’s healthy and wish them the best of luck :)

  11. Tiff Says:

I absolutely adore Simon so I am excited about this announcement. Congrats to Simon and Maureen!

I agree with happytimeladies. Don’t get me wrong. I’m a huge fan of his work and am happy for him and his wife. However, when a woman announces she wants one sex over the other she is lambasted for being selfish.

Besides which, wanting to raise a strong independent daughter in today’s society has become the new “it” trend. Girls are fantastic and should be wanted. However, I’ve noticed a huge bias against boys! Poor guys. Currently, there are actually more girls being born in the U.S. than boys. Does this seem right to anyone else? I guess the U.S. isn’t so gender equal as we’d like to think we are – and yet we are very quick to jump on other countries.

Besides which, we are spending so much time devoted to raising strong independent girls that our boys are getting the short end of the stick. It kind of makes you wonder who these little girls are going to grow up marrying. Men with low self-esteem.

I’m not saying that there is not still a lot of discrimination against women. But, boys are definitely not celebrated in this society as children – and maybe that isn’t so great….
