Burney Lamar Says Ciel is ‘Absolutely Perfect’

George Holz for PEOPLE for use on CBB

All you have to do is listen to NASCAR driver Burney Lamar to hear how much he’s enjoying fatherhood, nine days after welcoming daughter Ciel! The new dad “love[s] everything about my daughter” — including the stinky bits! “I know you hear about some dads not changing diapers, but not me,” he says. “I am trying to just spend as much time with her and do everything I can right now — even the diapers!”

Burney, 28, also likes dressing his daughter. “Putting clothes on a couple day old child is the coolest thing!,” explains the proud papa. “She is so small and the clothes are so tiny. It is just amazing!” However, his favorite thing about his daughter is her scent.

“She smells so good. And, this is going to sound funny, but even her breath smells good when she cries. And her crying is the cutest thing ever. She makes the sweetest faces. She is absolutely perfect.”

Overall, Ciel is “a great baby. She sleeps well so far, only up two of the five nights. We actually have to wake her up to feed her,” says Burney, quickly clarifying that his wife, supermodel Niki Taylor, is the one on “night shift.”

Ciel is the first child for Burney and Niki, 34. Niki is also mom to 14-year-old identical twin sons Hunter and Jake.

He seems so cool. I really like to hear men say that they enjoy fatherhood and I think he is the one that said the most about his feelings that I have ever seen on here and I think this is so cool. The fact he says that he likes her smell and that he changes diaper, cause for some men it’s like they can’t or don’t want to do it, and I don’t like men who do that, who let their wife do all that stuff that they don’t want to do.
Burney and Niki look really great together and I think she is lucky to have a man like him, a man who is not affraid to say how he fells. That’s so great. I hope to find a man like that.

Congrats on Ciel, I can’t wait to see her!

  2. Kimber Christian Says:

That is so sweet! I hope Niki shares some details about Ciel’s birth. I know it was going to be difficult due to her back surgeries, etc.. and Niki was possibly going to be put under general anesthesia. I hope she had a good experience! No matter what though, she had a healthy baby & that’s all that matters.

  3. Paige Says:

Love how much Burney is enjoying fatherhood. Can’t wait to see him in the #32 car in an upcoming Nationwide race. I got a feeling he’ll be sharing some pictures of his little girl.

  4. Jane Says:

He seems be so in love with his daughter.

Aww I love it when a man talks positively about being a father but it sure is great to hear about a man who will change a stinky diaper! Also, I’m not sure if it has been posted on the birth announcment but how do you pronounce Ceil?

  6. Anna Says:

I can’t wait to see her at the track when she’s a little older! Us fans have been lucky enough to get peeks at Samantha Mears, Ella Gordon, Charlie Leffler, and some others growing up around the track!

I love how happy he is to be a daddy. It’s adorable.

As for pronunciation, I think it’s like the french word – like sea-elle. I don’t know for sure, but that’s how I’ve been saying it! Haha.

  7. Stephany Says:

This has got to be one of my favorite “dad” interviews ever! I don’t know much about either of them but he sounds like he is head over heels for his daughter! She’s only 9 days old and she’s already got Daddy wrapped around her finger! Too cute!

  8. Sarah Says:

Anna, you’re right. It’s pronounced like “see-elle.” It’s french for “sky”

  9. SouthernBelle Says:

So very sweet to hear a Daddy “gush” about his little girl. Sounds like Niki has a wonderful husband and Ciel (as well as Hunter and Jake) have a wonderful Dad. And Niki, well, she is just a doll and I know they are proud to call her “Wife” and “Mom.” I am so very happy for this family!

  10. mp Says:

I’m with Kimber in that I’d like to hear how Niki coped with what must have been a difficult birth, given her previous health problems. Would love to see Ciel with her big brothers.

  11. Zoey Says:

It’s nice to hear a dad so happy being a father. The baby is probably beautiful can’t wait to see her. Can’t wait till Burney starts racing again. Maybe we’ll see the baby at the track.

  12. Jo Ann Mc Graw Says:

Burney & Niki, Congratulations. I just know that she is Beautifull just like Her Mom & Dad. I have known Burney since He was atleast 3 years old & was quite a nice little tot. I know that You both are enjoying Your little angel & congratulations again.
