Will Arnett’s New (Self) Nomination: Dad of the Year

Congratulations are in order for actor Will Arnett … or so he seems to think! Having recently welcomed his first child — son Archibald ‘Archie’ William Emerson, 5 months – the new dad tells Redbook that the journey of fatherhood, so far, has been “really fun.” So much so, in fact, that Will jokes he is in the running for the prestigious Dad of the Year award — before laughing that he is a self-nominated candidate!

“It’s still very early, but I’ve just been nominated Dad of the Year. Well, I nominated myself.”

Although Archie was born in New York City, Will, along with his wife, actress Amy Poehler, and baby boy have since packed up and settled in Los Angeles where the 37-year-old first-time mom is shooting her new series Parks and Recreation. While Will is quick to make light of their move, revealing that the Hollywood atmosphere fits the couple to a tee — “try and keep us off the red carpet … we go red carpet hunting!” — the proud papa admits to New York Magazine that he would much prefer to raise Archie in New York. “There is a bit of a worry about raising a child in L.A., especially when both the parents are show folk,” he says.

“I don’t know, is it a real universe?”

They are both so hilarious. I was watching Arrested Development over the weekend and it was the episodes she was in. Such a great pair. That kid is either going to be a riot or as serious as can be trying to be different than his parents.
