An acclaimed interior designer, Tracy Hutson made her mark as part of the design team on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. With Samantha Who?’s Barry Watson since 2003 and mom to their two little boys — Oliver, 4 next month, and Felix, 17 months — Tracy knew exactly how she wanted her sons’ rooms to look: “Mentally stimulating yet emotionally comforting, maximizing safety, and built and decorated with a healthy dose of environmental responsibility.” She’s spun her ideas into a new book, Feathering the Nest: Tracy Hutson’s Earth-Friendly Guide to Decorating Your Baby’s Room, out next Friday.

We’ll be chatting with Tracy about the book, her boys, as well as eco-chic and budget-friendly ways you can decorate your infant’s nursery. We’d like to include your questions as well, so please leave them below!

   Barry was just on Ellen a few days ago where he called Tracy his “fiance”, so I guess she is not his wife…yet.

   That’s odd! They were engaged for two years, but married in July 2006.

   I thought it was odd too, because I remember when they got married. I wondered why he said Fiance on the show…?? I wonder if anyone else watched it?

   I just rewatched the episode on you tube and he clearly says “my fiance” at 3:54. Very odd…

   I’m looking at doing a “whimsical” jungle theme in a nursery… and would love to do something 3-D (maybe a tree?) that could gradually grow with the baby (a book case maybe?). Do you have any design tips on “whimsical” animals or ways to make the nursery fun and creative–but still neutral? I got my inspiration from a Noah’s Art animals put out by Studio 56 and Krinkles.

   Our situation: second baby on the way; a boy when we have a girl. Her room is very girly: white furniture, pink flowery sheets, rug, shelves, and curtains. Our children will share a room after the little guy gets too big for his bassinet in our room until we move, which will not be in the little guy’s first year. We hope at that time the kids will get their own rooms, but there’s no guarantee.

   We will likely buy a second-hand crib and dresser and then spend the money later on big boy furniture when he’s old enough. Our daughter’s furniture is great for her whole childhood, so we really want to keep it.

   What can you suggest for how we can make the current space more boy-friendly without ditching everything we already have? We don’t have much on the walls, and would probably be willing to store the rug and curtains in favor of things that would balance out the room.

   He was on the Bonnie Hunt show today and he said he was not married yet. She is still his fiance.

    I’ve been watching Extreme Home Makeover but haven’t seen you on many episodes this year. Are you still a part of the show and if so what is your favorite part about being a part of it? – Joy

    Barry showed pics on Ellen….okay well they were more like fake baby pics of his kids scuba diving! Had to watch the whole show to get it! lol

    I was wondering how Barry’s health is, if he is still cancer-free, and if his illness has any impact on the way they live now?
