Gwen Stefani on Her Game Plan Gone Awry

With summer just around the corner, No Doubt are gearing up for a major concert tour. This past weekend they played two mini-gigs as a warm-up to the main event, which was put off indefinitely by frontwoman Gwen Stefani’s ever-growing family.

“We’re calling it ‘the procrastination tour,’” the 39-year-old songstress jokes to MTV Canada. “Well I am, at least. I’m the biggest procrastinator.” It’s easy to procrastinate with so much on your plate! Gwen – mom to Kingston James McGregor, 3 this month, and Zuma Nesta Rock, 8-months – points out,

“It’s not their fault, it’s my fault, because I had this whole game plan: ‘OK, I’m gonna go on tour with my last record, I’m gonna come home, I’m gonna get pregnant, I’m gonna have a baby, but while I’m pregnant, I’m gonna make the No Doubt record.’ That was, like, the plan, but it all didn’t work.”

After finally reuniting, the band — which includes members Tony KanalAdrian Young and Tom Dumont, the latter of whom also welcomed two sons during the band’s latest hiatus  – “got a lot of hang-out time” in, but not much music was made. “Maybe around 4:45 to 5 o’clock we’d actually play the instruments and then we’d all have dinner,” Gwen explains. “There was a lot of eating going on.”

Once they made up their minds to go on tour, the creative juices really began to flow, however. “The four of us looked at each other and said, ‘It’s time to play,’ and as soon as we said that, the pressure was lifted,” Tony reveals. “We got really excited. It was like four adults became four little kids again. We’re giddy about it.”

Kingston and Zuma are Gwen’s children with husband Gavin Rossdale.

It’s funny how life never works out the way you planned it, but it always works out far better than you ever could have imagined. At least for me it seems :)

  3. BJ Says:

I’m seeing No Doubt perform an outdoor concert for the Ellen show this month – I would love to see little Kingston or Zuma in the crowd! Love Gwen, she’s one of my most favorite celeb moms!

  4. Mia Says:

I saw NO DOUBT this past weekend at their first show of the tour in Atlantic City, NJ-They were AMAZING!! One of the best shows I have ever been to :) I’m so glad I finally got to see them.

CBB Note: NO DOUBT said the AC show was the first night of the tour, so they have 2 weeks off between this past weekend and the rest of the tour, but they didnt’ call them “warm up” show, they called it the “first show in 5 years”

I love the Stefani-Rossdale family :) There is a cute clip on you tube of Gwen hanging out with Gavin on the tour bus back in 1996, and you can see the love in her eyes, she was so smittened, and they are still crazy about each other 13 years later, its great.

  5. Pearl Says:

We saw Gavin, Kingston and the nannny at the Natural Museum in DC this weekend. No one bothered them or cared as it was running all weekend. But I must say, Gavin is dashing, I noticed Kingston first then Gavin, told my husband and he said, was that him in a black vest, I said yes how did you know, and he said Gavin stood out. It’s true the man is beautiful.

  6. Forever Moore Says:

I’ve been into ND since I was 14 and soon after I began lusting over Gavin (who wouldn’t?!)…so I was elated when Gwen and Gav got together…I couldn’t be jealous, they were made for each other and now have the sweetest family!

Pearl, you lucky girl, seeing him in the flesh!
