Maya Rudolph Expecting Second Child

In the upcoming summer film, Away We Go, Maya Rudolph’s character is pregnant. Well, off-screen, the actress is pregnant too!

The former Saturday Night Live star, 36, is expecting her second child with her partner, director Paul Thomas Anderson, she reveals in an interview slated to air Monday on ET Canada.

“I wasn’t planning on sharing it, but yes I am pregnant!” she tells the show. In a nod to the irony of playing pregnant, followed by actually being pregnant, she says, “I know it’s really weird timing.”

Already mom to daughter Pearl Bailey, 3 ½, Maya says her current pregnancy is “totally different” than her first one. “The first time you are like wide-eyed: ‘What are we doing?, Who’s coming?, How do we take care of them?’ But this time, I’m like I have to sit down, I’m pregnant.’”

She adds, “When you have a three-and-a-half-year-old, you don’t have time to rest and nap and do all those sweet pampering type things you did for yourself the first time. You are like, ‘I got to get to bed!’”

As for adding to her family, Maya says she’s psyched. “I feel like everyone who has had more then one [child], says you should do it. It’s nice to have this experience.”

  1. Sammy-xx Says:

I was just thinking about her how funny. I was thinking about her skit on SNL with Shia LaBeouf, one of my faves.
She is also a celelb baby, her mum is ‘Loving You’ Minnie Ripertons daughter.
Congrats to Maya and Paul. I love the name Pearl Bailey

  2. J-Lin Says:

I was thinking the same thing Sammy. Maya is the daughter of Minnie Ripperton.

    Love her as Donatella Versace.

  3. Allison Says:

Congratulations! Since Amy Poehler has a baby, all we need now is another Tina Fey baby to round it out.

  4. Lauren Says:

Oh, I am excited for her! I too am pregnant with a 3 1/2 year old. That is a TOUGH job! SO TIRED!

  5. Abbe Says:

Paul Thomas Anderson is a great director.

  6. Marilyn Says:

Pearl Bailey is the name of a real person (actress/singer) that was famous in the 70’s. I wonder if they named her after Ms. Bailey. She guest-starred on TV shows but I don’t recall which ones.

  7. Chris Says:

Congrats to her! Is her daughter’s name Pearl Bailey or Pearl Minnie?

  8. Amillia Henderson Says:

Her late mother’s, Minnie Riperton, 1975 hit single “Lovin’ You” is STILL my all time favorite song. Congrats to Maya and her family. I hope it’s a boy this time around.

  9. ATHENA Says:

Congrats to Maya. The baby will have a very fun and memorable childhood.

  10. Jane Says:

Maya just did a guest appearance on tonight’s episode on SNL and her waist was significantly smaller! Any news on when she had the baby, if it was a boy or a girl, or the name?
