Meet Bob and Max Sheen!

When Charlie Sheen’s fraternal twin boys, Max and Bob, were born on March 15th, seven weeks premature, the experience had a profound effect on the Two and a Half Men star. “There are days I don’t even want to go to work because I want to be with my family,” Charlie, 43, tells In Touch in an exclusive interview.
It’s hard to believe that Charlie is such a dedicated family man now. Early in his career, the actor battled drug addiction and sex scandals, but 11 years ago, he turned his life around. Last May, he married Brooke Mueller Sheen, 31, and is now a doting dad to Max and Bob, daughters Sam, 5, and Lola, 3 ½, with ex-wife Denise Richards, and daughter Cassandra, 24.
“I feel like I’m doing something for the greater good,” He says. “They’re relying on me to make the right choices so they can have the life they deserve.” Adds Brooke, “I finally feel like everything has fallen into place.”

After three daughters, what’s different about sons:
Charlie Sheen: Oh boy, I’m totally confused. I’m completely baffled. Not to be graphic, but this is my first time changing a diaper for boys. I’ve been peed on a little. Bob really impressed me – he hit the wall from two feet away. I was just glad I didn’t take it in the face!
Brooke Mueller Sheen: Charlie’s so great. He goes into the nursery, and he manages both of them. He’ll be holding one and have one in the baby seat, constantly looking back and forth.
CS: They’ve made me a better man. People think when they get married it will solve selfishness and be about the other person, but really that doesn’t happen until you have children.
BMS: I do see him being a better man now that the boys are here. He’s totally involved. I was a little worried I’d be the one doing most of the work, but I was wrong.
On Brooke as a mom:
CS: She’s unbelievable. She’s so great, caring, focused, compassionate, loving and selfless and eager to be involved and to learn. Her mom instincts are all there. I knew when she was just my girlfriend how great she was with Sam and Lola. So, I’m not surprised she was amazing from day one. We are a perfect match.
On Sam and Lola as big sisters:
CS: They came to the hospital, they’ve been to the house, and they’re affectionate and curious. They think the babies are dolls, so we have to be careful with how they hold them and handle them. We’re very hands-on and very protective, so we are guiding and teaching them how to deal with infants.
On how he and Denise are getting along now:
CS: We started noticing that when we get along, the kids are much happier. We had to do what’s best for Sam and Lola.
BMS: She is totally great, and it’s water under the bridge. Her daughters are blood relatives, and we want them to hang out with Max and Bob as much as possible.
On why they chose the names Bob and Max:
CS: I wanted to bring it back to basics. Their names aren’t even Robert or Maxmillian. If my children don’t like their names, they can always change them when they get older.
BMS: He was so into choosing the names for six months, I finally just said, “Okay, you choose the names for both babies.” He was happy about that.

On the twins’ looks and personalities:
CS: Bob is the more demanding one. He’s not afraid to express his desires.
BMS: He lets you know when he wants to be rubbed, cuddled, held, eat. He also lets me know if I kiss him too much!
CS: Max is pretty laid-back. He will hang out in the corner. He doesn’t need all the attention yet, but that could change tomorrow. I’m happy they are fraternal. I didn’t want to not be able to tell them apart!
BMS: Bob looks identical to Charlie. And Max looks like [Charlie's dad] Martin [Sheen].
On sleep:
CS: Sleep’s not as bad right now. I feel bad for Brooke because she has to get up and pump. But as a new dad, it’s hard to sleep through the night. I go in and check on everybody. I worry because that’s what dads do.
On losing the baby weight:
BMS: “I’m going to bust my butt,” says Brooke, who’s working out with a trainer five days a week and eating with Freshology, organic gourmet meals that are calorie-controlled and delivered daily. “You lose weight fast from breastfeeding the babies, but it’s really those last pounds that are the hardest to lose.”
On Charlie’s past transgressions:
CS: My wild ways ended in 1998, so I’ve had over a decade of being a sober, contributing, law-abiding member of society. Sam and Lola were lucky they came into my life at a time when I was a lot more conservative, and the boys, as well.
BMS: It’s hysterical to me that he has this reputation. He’s such a family man. Charlie will still be the brunt of all jokes when it comes to hookers, but I’m not worried. It’s out of his system.
CS: [I'll tell the boys about my past.] I’ll be completely up front and honest. I would try to show them how to be a man rather than tell them. I would teach them the same things my father taught me about integrity and morality, and always telling the truth. There are certain days I wake up and I’m waiting for someone to show up and say, “This is not your life, this is not the life you deserve.” I’m giddy at times because it’s not fair. I’ve had two lives – the crazy one and the stable one. I don’t need to do the crazy one anymore. I did it, I survived, and now I focus on things that matter.
On if the twins want to go into acting:
Charlie: Well, the Hollywood I started out in is different from the Hollywood I know today. But I will share all my experiences with them and everything I know. I’ll tell them, “Whatever your dreams are, I can’t stand in the way of them.” I wouldn’t have wanted someone to do that with me.
On balancing work with the boys:
CS: We finished our last taping a few weeks ago, so the timing worked out well. I was offered a few films recently, but I thought, I can’t abandon my family right now and go do something.
More kids?:
CS: I don’t know, we haven’t made any decision either way. We don’t think it would be fair to the boys right now to introduce another person into their lives so soon. You’ve got to focus on giving equal attention to both of them right now.
BMS: The pregnancy I had was so tough. Our children were born so early at just over 4 pounds, and it was really difficult and risky. I’m nervous to have another baby. I’d love to have a girl, but we’ll see.

awww! Adorable!
May 14th, 2009 at 12:45 pm
They’re pretty cute! If, in a few years, they do have a girl, it would be interesting to see and/or hear about the relationship she would have with Sam and Lola. I’m curious how that would play out haha
She’s right, Bob looks like Charlie, but seriously, they named him Bob? It sounds like an old man with a potbelly to me. Especially with his twin being Max, a currently popular and stylish name. It’s like black and white….
May 14th, 2009 at 12:47 pm
interesting, i saw an interview with charlie sheen and brooke mueller plus many pics of their adorable boys in a german magazine … weeks ago! nevertheless – they are incredibly cute and i think that they are charlie in miniature.
May 14th, 2009 at 12:54 pm
So cute!! I am so happy Denise, Brooke and Charlie all get along now. Sam and Lola must be so happy!!
May 14th, 2009 at 12:55 pm
I still don’t know which one is which, but they are cute. But if I go by the one who loves attention and the one who’s laid-back, I’d say the one who’s wide awake, and looks like he’s trying to get his brother’s focus, is Bob and the one sleeping it off is Max. Ha!
May 14th, 2009 at 12:59 pm
I hope all those pillows, stuffed toys, etc are only in the crib for the photoshoot.
May 14th, 2009 at 1:03 pm
This pic looks like a bad example of photoshop, I’m confused.
May 14th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
I feel kind of bad that Charlie sort of had his way and named the kids haha!
May 14th, 2009 at 1:15 pm
Sooo cute!
May 14th, 2009 at 1:34 pm
CUTE!
“We started noticing that when we get along, the kids are much happier.” – better late than never.
What exactly does “it’s water under the bridge” mean? (English is not my native language, never heard this expression.)
May 14th, 2009 at 1:38 pm
woohoo! breastfeeding twins, go brooke!
May 14th, 2009 at 1:47 pm
“It’s water under the bridge” means that it is in the past.
May 14th, 2009 at 1:51 pm
Kai,
it just means it’s something that happened in the past, and they’re over it and it doesn’t matter any more. I hope that’s the case for them now, as it was pretty nasty there for a while.
May 14th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
Ohmygoodness. Those babies are so extremely cute and tiny!!! I’m in love! Those pictures just made my day
May 14th, 2009 at 1:52 pm
kai: English is not my native language either, but I beliveve it means something like “it’s all in the past” – like something that was once there, but now behind you. Hope that makes sense!
May 14th, 2009 at 2:06 pm
aahhhh, now I get it, water… river… bridge. *makes sense*
thanks!
May 14th, 2009 at 3:03 pm
Soo cute! Those boys look just like their daddy! I’ve always been a big fan of Charlie’s movies, and I think it is great that he has turned himself around and is able to be a great husband and father. Best wishes to the new twins, and their great family!
May 14th, 2009 at 3:39 pm
There is so much going on in that pillow crib picture. They look cute but my gosh, and photo shopping in the last. I really like the second pic, with dad, it looks really natural, untouched and precious.
May 14th, 2009 at 5:55 pm
Thank God they gave them normal names.
May 14th, 2009 at 6:50 pm
Very Cute and congrats to them both.
“They’ve made me a better man. People think when they get married it will solve selfishness and be about the other person, but really that doesn’t happen until you have children.”
Shame he didn’t realise this with his first 3 children! Or at least it is how is reads. By saying “they’ve” its suggests he is refering to the twins!
May 14th, 2009 at 6:52 pm
They are so precious! Brooke looks amazing… she shouldn’t be stressing about the extra weight. I still have my doubts that Charlie is completely reformed… I mean didn’t Denise divorce him because he was messing around again?
May 14th, 2009 at 7:03 pm
Not liking the name Bob…but the babies are adorable!!!
May 14th, 2009 at 7:29 pm
Do Sam, Max and Bob have middle names? I’ve never heard what any of them are. I’ve only heard a middle name for Lola.
May 14th, 2009 at 10:50 pm
I am so glad that Charlie Sheen has a good life and seems to be very happy. I hope all his children grow up as a family. He could probably learn a lot from Rod Stewart and Ashton Kutcher. But really, could they not of picked a better name then Bob, does he even have a middle name. Whenever I hear the name Bob, I expect an older balding man, max is more modern but even his is too short. Oh well, at least it isn’t peach and pepper or something ridicouos like that. LOL
May 14th, 2009 at 11:32 pm
Jane- according to Denise and Charlie’s divorce papers (which I admit I’ve read, haha), Sam’s middle name is J., I assume it’s Joni after Denise’s mother.
I actually like the name Bob! Google Bob Harper from The Biggest Loser, he is definitely not an old balding man
May 15th, 2009 at 12:04 am
Cute! I don’t know if the celebrities read this, but if you are, you should take all that stuff out from between the boys. Once we took out those sleep positioners w/our twins and put them right next to eachother, they slept so well – something about them having been right next to eachother for months in the womb, it’s comforting or something. And I nursed ours too, so it wasn’t b/c of formula that they were sleeping better.
May 15th, 2009 at 1:57 am
As the mum of a Sam not Samuel, (although not as keen on Sam for a girl personally) I know where Charlie’s coming from. We also have nephews Max and Jake so my sis and I are both into shorter names, although not liking Bob – I also think of an old guy with a belly, lol. Nice to see them enjoying life with their boys and glad to see Lola and Sam have seen a bit of their little brothers too. Would be sad if they were left out because of their dad’s ‘new family’, and feel in years to come he favoured them having his longed-for boys, sure he loves his little girls a lot too. I like him on two and a half men. Always hard to know the full story as were hearing a lot about Denise’s point of view in all their divorce mud slinging, but glad they’re trying to move on and get on better for their girls’ sakes.
May 15th, 2009 at 2:07 am
Jane- I read somewhere that Bob’s middle name is Carlos. That said, I wonder why Charlie’s father referred to Bob as “Robert” on TV (I forget what show it was) when in fact his name is just “Bob”? I hope it’s not that he refuses to accept that Bob isn’t just a nickname!
May 15th, 2009 at 3:15 am
they all do look so peaceful… I want that chair charlie is sitting in . Do you think it is serena and lily? just had their look
May 15th, 2009 at 7:28 am
Why do so many people have something against the name Bob. Sure it would not be my favourite as well, but better then something like Heavenly Hiranyi, Dweezil or some other name the poor kid will just get teased about.
May 15th, 2009 at 10:29 am
I think its really creepy how Charlie and his wife look so much alike!
May 15th, 2009 at 11:50 am
Thanks Stephanie and CelebBabyLover, for answering my question.
May 15th, 2009 at 12:42 pm
its disgusting how his wife let her husband choose the names.. i;m sorry but since when did charlie give birth? –and also, looks like he got really bored and was like “meh i’ll name them bob and max”– hummm
May 15th, 2009 at 2:20 pm
Bob and Max are their nicknames, not the names on their birth certificates.
May 15th, 2009 at 2:22 pm
Since when does giving birth mean you get to name the babies? Pregnancy lasts nine months. You raise a child together for 18 years. Babies should get names that both parents love.
May 15th, 2009 at 4:41 pm
I would like to see Charlie’s Older daughter with the twins.
May 15th, 2009 at 4:46 pm
I like how Brooke calls Lola and Sam “blood relatives” and are welcome over there anytime. They are Charlie’s daughters and Bob and Max’s sisters…OMG..I can’t believe her.
May 15th, 2009 at 8:45 pm
Poor Sam and Lola, seems that Charlie prefer his sons.
May 15th, 2009 at 10:37 pm
They are sweet babies, but I agree with some previous posters that Charlie seems much happier that he got his boys (one of the issues in the Sheen/Richards divorce was that Charlie freaked because Lola was a girl). I also really dislike the idea that Sam and Lola are “blood relatives” in Brooke’s words. They are Bob and Max’s sisters and I think Denise has tried really hard to make the girls involved, Charlie too. Brooke needs to get on boar as well.
May 15th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
pIS- Didn’t you read the article? Charlie said, “Their names aren’t even Robert and Maximilan”. So Max and Bob ARE their names!
May 15th, 2009 at 11:45 pm
Joanne- Where did Charlie say he prefers his sons?
May 15th, 2009 at 11:46 pm
Mary-Helen- Brooke basically DID say that they are Max and Bob’s sisters, and that they visit them a lot and love them. “Blood relatives” is just another way of saying sisters.
May 15th, 2009 at 11:48 pm
msmsms- Would rather Brooke say that the girls AREN’T welcome?
May 15th, 2009 at 11:49 pm
Sam and Freya’s Mom- Your comment is one of the best I’ve seen so far, and I completely agree with you!
May 15th, 2009 at 11:51 pm
pIS- I agree with your comment about the names. I don’t get why some people think the mother should always name them (and why people have a probably with Charlie naming the boys when Brooke specifically said in the interview that she told him he could is beyond me)?
Some families, for example, have the mother choose the name of the first baby and the father the name of the second. Others have an arrangment where the father gets to name the baby if it’s one gender, and the mom gets to name it if it’s the other gender.
Other couples, such as my parents actually, *gasp!* choose the names TOGETHER!
May 16th, 2009 at 3:33 pm
“I also really dislike the idea that Sam and Lola are “blood relatives” in Brooke’s words. They are Bob and Max’s sisters and I think Denise has tried really hard to make the girls involved, Charlie too.”
Isn’t blood relatives and sisters the same thing. It all means the same, it’s just a different way of wording it.
May 16th, 2009 at 11:16 pm
Jane- Exactly! And from Brooke and Charlie’s comments about the girls visitng, thinking the boys are like dolls, etc., it sounds like they ARE trying hard to make sure they’re involved.
May 18th, 2009 at 12:06 am
Bob is a horrible name for a little baby. Max Sheen sounds like Maxine with a lisp. Cute babies and I wish them all the best.
May 18th, 2009 at 12:10 am
Adorable munchkins. Brooke is so pretty. Finally Charlie has his long awaited baby boys.
August 3rd, 2009 at 11:33 am
I took Brooke’s comment as trying to verbalize how important the girls are in all of their lives. When I first read that she called them blood relatives I thought wow she is really making sure we all know she makes it a prioroty for them to be involved in their lives. There is no story there! I don’t really see how they look simlilar?? I keep going back and looking which is funny that I don’t see it because I am known for comparing husbands and wives and think my husband and I look alot alike!
