Kerri Walsh Welcomes Son Joseph Michael

Forget the gold medals. Kerri Walsh just got the biggest prize of all: She became a mom.

Kerri, 30, and her husband, AVP pro-volley ball player Casey Jennings, 33, welcomed son Joseph Michael Jennings at 8:57 p.m. on Friday, May 22nd in Los Angeles.

“We could not be more thrilled to welcome Joseph into the world,” Kerri tells PEOPLE. “It’s the most incredible feeling. We are already so in love with him and it’s such an amazing, special moment for our family.”

The baby weighed in at 8 lbs., 10 oz. Mom and baby are resting comfortably.

Kerri — a gold-medalist in beach volleyball at both the 2004 and 2008 Olympics — announced the pregnancy in September, sharing the sex and name of the baby earlier this month.

   Wow “Joseph Michael” or “Michael Joseph” combination is pretty popular. I don’t remember exactly which celebrity children bare the names but I have heard it numerous times before. Congrats to Kerri and Casey on their baby boy!!!

    Kelly Ripa’s son is named Michael Joseph and Michael Jackson’s middle name is Joseph, and I know a few Michael Josephs or Joseph Michaels…popular names. Congrats!

    LOVE the name! I’m thrilled that Kerri avoided the wacky and misspelled names trends and gave her son a classic name. Michael was always one of my favorite names because it was my father’s name and Joseph is my uncle’s name (or one of my uncles. lol) so I really like it too. Joseph Michael Jennings flows perfectly too. He’ll thank her for that when he’s older.

    I actually got to meet her when I was a junior in high school. She’s and misty were so nice and helpful! She was a really rad girl who played volleyball with my team tho it was like 40 degrees on coney island beach in january! I wish her the best of luck, she’s probably going to be a very energetic mom!

    I’m so happy for them–congratulations! Although I don’t see why people are surprised that they gave their son a “normal” name; they’re not really “Hollywood”, as one poster said. But I do agree that you can’t go wrong with a name like Joseph Michael!
