"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

"If you ask Violet what I do, she'll say she remembers me bowing on stage when I did a show in New York, and so she'll say, 'My mom sometimes will bow on stage and sometimes she gets her hair and makeup done.' It's a great job!"

Scholastic Storybook Treasures My Very First Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics Preschool Stories

Scholastic Storybook Treasures has just released My Very First Treasury of 50 Storybook Classics Preschool Stories ($50).

This read-along seven DVD set includes such stories as Corduroy, Is Your Mama a Llama?, Noisy Nora, Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel.

Newer faves like the delightful Knuffle Bunny and Giraffes Can’t Dance are also included.

The DVDS are grouped into the following categories: stories about caring, adventure, sing-alongs, sleepy time, classics, Harold and the Purple Crayon and the Ezra Jack Keats Collection. Calista Flockhart, Anthony Edwards and Cyndi Lauper are some of the narrators for this mostly animated Box Set (only Corduroy is done in live action).

Recommended ages are 2 to 8. A 100 Storybook Classics DVD Set ($100) and a 20 Storybook Classics DVD Set ($30) are also available for purchase.

While this 50 Story DVD Set is pricey at $50 –  you’re getting 50 stories, so it works out for around $1 per award-winning story. You can probably find it for well under $50 though if you look around.

These are all great stories to READ with your children…don’t think I could get so excited about sitting my children in front of a tv to watch them on DVD.

  3. B Says:

… I would prefer actual BOOKS that my kid can read. Wow.

Just wanted to let everyone know that this dvd set with the preschool stories as well as a few other sets with different stories are available right now at Costco for $26! Great price for some seriously great stories on dvd. I absolutely advocate READING the books with your children first. Interact and discuss the stories, and then I don’t think there is anything wrong with them watching them on the tv for a little down time (for you and them)!

  5. UggaMugga.com Says:

I wanted to add that I think the reason these are classics and hold dear spots in us as parents is that the illustrations are simple and that children (and adults) can use their imagination to envision all of the magical things that happen in each book…we could expand on what Harold drew; we could picture in our minds how the animals must have fumbled with putting the keys into the cage’s locks as they broke them out to go home with the zookeeper; and how little Corduroy must have looked when he went up the mountain that was the escalator.

No, there’s nothing wrong with watching the DVDs, but the stories will lose some love they will be terribly simplified. And that’s a shame!

I love these scholastic books. I just bought some great books and clothes for my 3 year old at the Kisan Concept store in soho… and HEIDI KLUM was there! She bough some bags and her kids played with all the toys and books. So cute!
