"I just LOVE him and love the fact that he has turned into such a wonderful actor, partner and father. Good for him. The pic with the two of them together just melts my heart. My hubby looks at me like that still and I treasure it because some women wish they could find a good man who will still look at them the same way they did years before."

Unexpected Fatherhood Changed Greg Vaughan’s Life

John M. Heller/Getty

Fatherhood found actor Greg Vaughan when he least expected it! He and wife Touriya weren’t trying for a baby, but soon after their marriage found out that they were expecting. “Shocking is a good word for it,” laughs Greg. Chatting on the phone with a friend who had just become a father, the General Hospital star noticed Touriya was beginning to cry in the kitchen. “I looked at her and I asked, ‘Honey, are you okay?’ And she’s like, ‘We’re pregnant.’”

Greg was so taken back by his wife’s confession that he told his friend, “‘Dude, I know you just had a child, but I’ve got to call you back.’ I started that call talking about my friend’s child and all of a sudden, I’m about to be in that same position.”

While he wasn’t planning to be a father so soon, it didn’t take Greg long to become excited! “When you see the sonogram, that’s when you feel it. When you see that picture and you feel it kick and hear its heartbeat and you talk to it, you feel, well a little strange. But you’re making the connection, and when you physically welcome your child into the world, it’s life-changing.” Son Jathan James‘ birth was “one of the greatest moments I have ever experienced,” Greg recalls.

“Fatherhood is so rewarding and emotionally fulfilling in so many ways. I can’t tell you how much I look forward to coming home to my family and seeing my son and how he looks at me.”

The former model is enjoying watching his son, now two, grow. As he gets bigger, the comments about how Jathan is “the perfect blend between” Greg and Touriya increase! “He did get my chin … He’s got my wife’s hairline. In fact, he’s very similar to her in her baby photos and she hates to admit it, but she’s like ‘I looked like a boy when I was born,’” Greg laughs. “But he’s a good mix.”

Jathan is not only a good combination in looks, but also in the languages that he speaks! Touriya speaks six languages and she is in the process of teaching her son Dutch.

“He knows the basics: hands, fingers, toes, nose, mouth, ears, eyes, head, forehead, hair, arms, legs, knees. He knows where they all area. If you say it in Dutch, he can point to every one of them. Now we’re learning the alphabets. We say it in Dutch and then in English, and count one to 10 in Dutch and English.”

Greg, 35, is enjoying fatherhood so much, could there be a possibility of more children in his future? “Let me put it this way,” jokes the actor. “We’re never not working on it.”

What a little cutie (and I love “Lucky” on GH!) but, I have to say that it drives me a little crazy when people claim to have “no idea” how they ended up pregnant! I mean, we ALL know how babies get here by the time we’re grown ups, right? It’s not like catching a cold!

  2. sdfsd Says:

Haha, Patrice, I agree! Especially a grown man in his 30s. It also drives me crazy when people say “we’re pregnant.” Only females get pregnant!

  3. Chantal Says:

Wow… That little boy looks like his mommy! He’s so cute!!

  4. Mamaista Says:

    What a cute pair!

We also really don’t need to know when couples are…well…working on getting pregnant.

Greg Vaughn’s character on General Hospital is being under used..

He is a great actor and to see that all he does is fight..When will
he be involved in the case of the mayor..Greg said that when they
were on the Soap Opera Boat Cruise that his son was quite the break dancer and would not stop for 20 minutes..

    Thanks CBB for the photo

You know what drive ME crazy? Women who complain about men saying “we’re pregnant.” Would you rather he be a deadbeat dad? Be thankful the man is emotionally invested, and stop being so petty!

  9. Chelsea Says:

    I agree Wozzy!

Well I am currently four months along with my fourth and let me tell you, WE WERE SHOCKED AT THE NEWS. Of course everyone knows how women get pregnant. That still doesn’t mean the actual announcement of said pregnancy wasn’t shocking, especially to those of us who weren’t trying and who are using some form of birth control. I mean, I don’t think it is common for most people to go around thinking that they are pregnant each and every time they have sex. I sure as hell don’t. Yes, when I found out I was flabbergasted, but that doesn’t mean I wasn’t thrilled at the same time. It just wasn’t something that we were planning for or even thinking about.

  11. Lauren Says:

“It also drives me crazy when people say “we’re pregnant.” Only females get pregnant!”

And until females can miraculously climb on top of themselves to get themselves pregnant, it takes two to tango and two parents who expect the child they created together. Damn those dads who want to be as involved with their partners’ pregnancies as possible.

    Sweet interview regardless.

    LOL lizzielui! And congrats!

This was a woman who said “We’re pregnant,” not a man. This has nothing to do with whether someone’s a deadbeat dad or emotionally invested or not. Pregnancy is a medical condition that only happens to females.

I’m just stating an opinion; there’s no need to be snarky.

“And until females can miraculously climb on top of themselves to get themselves pregnant, it takes two to tango and two parents who expect the child they created together. Damn those dads who want to be as involved with their partners’ pregnancies as possible.”

Yes, men get women pregnant. That doesn’t change the fact that only women get pregnant and not men. I think men should be involved with their partners’ pregnancies. That still doesn’t mean the men are pregnant themselves. If the couple want to convey that they are both involved with the pregnancy, then they can say “We’re expecting a baby together.” “We’re pregnant” was funny and cute the first time someone said it, but now it’s old.

Sorry, but you just can’t compare a man’s emotional involvement with his partner’s pregnancy to the great ordeal a woman undergoes during her pregnancy.

  14. lizzielui Says:

I guess I forgot to add this to my first post. It amazes me how people find the most innocuous and endearing statements irksome. When my hubby and I found out we were pregnant the first time around he most certainly said “We’re Pregnant” several times to family and friends. I know I said it over and over myself and I know where my mind was when I said it. We created this child together and I truly feel like we are pregnant together in a figurative way. Obviously men cannot get pregnant and carry a child in the womb. That is not what we were conveying when we made those statements. It’s more like, “Look at this wonderful life we created together. Yeees, we did this!”

This is EXACTLY what I am talking about. My belief is that being pregnant is more than just a “medical condition.” I am not trying to take away anything from mothers or what they go through during pregnancy, but it strikes me as awfully devisive to say only women can say that they’re “pregnant” just because of the biology involved.

Based on your logic, if a man was the sole breadwinner in his family, the wife could not consider their joint savings her own, nor could she call their house “hers” because she does not know the ordeal or earning the money. Or even further, that parents can’t call adoptees their own children.

Let’s stop being so petty and preoccupied with symantics and biological processes and look at pregnancy as a shared expereience between the parents.

  16. Megan Says:

Wow, I can’t believe that an argument started over the phrase “We’re pregnant” and it’s actually still going…
