Paz Vega Welcomes Daughter Ava

INF

It’s a girl! Actress Paz Vega and her husband Orson Salazar welcomed their second child on Friday, July 17th, the Spanglish star confirms. As was planned, daughter Ava Salazar was born in Madrid and weighed in at 7 lbs., 2 oz.

“Paz and Ava are both healthy and enjoying being at home,” her rep Marcel Pariseau confirms to Celebrity Baby Blog. “Paz and Orson are both so excited about the new addition to their young family.”

Due to the baby’s positioning, Paz needed to undergo a cesarean to deliver her daughter. “She was transverse in my womb, so they had to perform a c-section,” the actress explained in interviews with the Spanish press.

While the 33-year-old is “happy” that the delivery went perfectly, she laughs that baby Ava is keeping everyone on their toes with her voracious appetite.

“The baby has come big and with lots of interest in eating! Ava is a big little lady who was born at 7 lbs. and for a girl, that’s really good.”

The new baby joins big brother Orson, 2, who is happily taking on his new role. “He hasn’t had any type of rejection toward the baby,” reports Paz. “On the contrary, he gets close to her … and says, ‘Ava, my baby!’” before running off to play in the garden adjoining the hospital room.

The new family of four will remain in Madrid until mid-September, at which point they will then head to Los Angeles to raise their children.

Rumors of a pregnancy began in December, with Paz later confirming she was expecting and revealing baby-on-the-way was a girl.

  6. Tina Says:

cool:) but her kids have no middle names.

  7. Emily Says:

Aww congrats to them. I love the name Ava

  8. Fifi25 Says:

Tina, whats wrong with not having a middle name? I don’t have one, as well as others in my family. Theres nothing wrong with it.

  9. Kolby Says:

Tina – it’s quite common in Spanish families for children to have only first and last names.

  10. Kaitlin Says:

Aww, congrats to them. I may be biased as there’s a beautiful Ava in my family, but that’s such a gorgeous and classy name. And has some cute names that can follow as a nickname, even if there is no middle name.

(Off topic story, my name is Kaitlin Kerry, but my Aunt has always called me Kaitlin Marie. No real reason, but it makes me laugh. Her daughter Ava is Ava Regina, and I used to call her that. Somewhere along the line it got shortened to ‘Ava Ray’ and now I often just call her Ray. It has nothing to do with Ava, but I think it’s cute nonetheless, she ALWAYS answers to it, and I love the looks I get when people who know her name is Ava hear me call her Ray. It’s cute. =))

  11. Verónica Says:

Yay! Congrats to her family :)
I’m Spanish and is very common to have only first name, and thenm the last name. I am Verónica Ramos G. That’s another point. We have two last names.

About Paz’s little joy, i just can say that I LOVE IT the name! Ava sounds weird in here, but is time to modernize! I want that, If I have a baby girl in a future, her name be Stella NOT Estela, for example. And I want that my babies have two names.

That stuff… just depends of my husband/bf’s last name hahaha.

  12. Tina Says:

    oh well sorry :S

  13. Verónica Says:

Don’t worry, Tina! It’s normal. I have friends on USA, for example, and always, people’s asking the same :)
Personally, I find too strong my name and I think that I don’t need a second one.

I’m really happy to see how the Spanish ‘famous’ people are having their babies! First, Fdo. Torres & wife, Olalla and now, Paz & Orson (well, he’s not but..)

    Sorry for my English.

  14. aurora mia Says:

Paz is so pretty and she has such pretty children….love the name Ava. Best wishes!

  15. Sooz Says:

Awww lil Ava shares my birthday! And that’s such a pretty name, makes a nice set with Orson! Congrats to the new party of four!

  16. FC Says:

Aww, congrats to her on having a healthy baby girl, and I love the name Ava. I think it’s adorable that little Orson comes around with his “Ava,my baby!” comment. That’s adorable. :)

  17. Mia Says:

Aw, congrats. I love the pic of Paz and her newborn baby girl, very cute :) I think the names sound good together: Orson and Ava.

  18. ShiraB Says:

glad to here all is well!!! ava is a very pretty name but just wondering if anyone knows how they are pronouncing it?? i have friends named ava, but one is ava like eh-va and one is spelt ava but pronounced eva!! and ava can also be pronouced like ahhva so there are many ways to pronouce it!!! whatever it is it is a great name!!!

  19. JMO Says:

Orson and Ava are lovely names!!

  20. cas Says:

love her..she’s beautiful..and congrats to them

  21. Sheryl Says:

I can’t believe how much Paz looks like Penelope Cruz. They could certainly pass for twins. OMG they look so much alike!! Just had to say that and congratulations to her and her family on their new arrival! Enjoy!!

  22. CelebBabyLover Says:

I’m really confused! Her rep says that they’re enjoying “being at home”…but later in the article Pax references still being in the hospital (which makes sense, considering she had a C-section).

Anyway, congrats to them, and is that Ava in the picture with this post (I assume so, as the baby in the picture is wrapped in a pink blanket!)?

Oh, and I think the first and last name only thing is fine, to each his own. However, I wonder how they differentiate between Orson Sr. and Orson Jr.?

  23. L. Says:

I’m not surprised that the baby doesn’t have a middle name, I’m surprised that she only has one last name. Traditionally, she’d be Ava Salazar Vega.

Btw, the little boy is probably nicknamed Orsonito, “little Orson”. It would be easy to differentiate mail for father and son because they’d have partially different last names (Orson Salazar MothersName and Orson Salazar Vega).

  24. Ivonne Says:

I like the name. I guess her comment surprised me. I only have two boys and they were huge (10 lbs and 9 lbs) so I don’t have a girl’s weight to compare it to. However I was a big baby too, 9.5 lbs, and even now 7 lb babies are so tiny to me that it’s a little scary. My 3 week old neice is 7.5 lbs and I’m almost afraid to hold her. Are girls typically smaller than boys at birth?

  25. Terri Says:

Big for a girl? I don’t think there’s much size difference between boys and girls until a few years.
