Elaine Cassidy Welcomes Daughter Kíla
Craig Barritt/JPI |
It’s a girl for Harper’s Island star Elaine Cassidy!
She and husband Stephen Lord welcomed their first child, daughter Kíla Lord Cassidy, on Wednesday, September 16th in London, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively. Baby girl’s first name is pronounced “Key-la.”
“Stephen and I are absolutely delighted,” Elaine said in a statement.
Elaine and Stephen announced the pregnancy in March. The actress, 29, commemorated the event by posing for Fit Pregnancy’s August issue.

Congrats. Is it a tradition in Ireland that babies take their mother’s last name, even when they are married? I would have thought that the name would be Kila Cassidy Lord, since they are married.

I like how Kila has her mom’s last name. Neat tradition

How wonderful that the baby has her mother’s last name! We’ll know men and women are truly equal when half the time a baby gets its mother’s last name.

I don’t think the name has anything to do with equality of men and women, it’s just tradition. They probably didn’t like the last name LORD so they gave her Cassidy

Tradition tends to be rooted in patriarchy.

It says Kíla Lord Cassidy, so she has both last names.

The name reminded me of a place in Ireland I once heard of (pronounced Ki-la-lu; I have no clue on the spelling though).

Congatulations!

Not a tradition in Ireland at all I a sure you. But perhaps it is simply a case of which way the names work best. If they intend on giving her a double barrel name. Its probs just about how it sounds.

It doesn’t look like a double-barrel name. If so, then she doesn’t have a middle name. It looks like she has her father’s name as a middle name and her mother’s name as a last name. A refreshing change from the more usual reverse.

How refreshing that every comment I have read has been positive.

Aw. How lovely.
Congrats to both of them.

Congrats! She was great in A Room with a View too. She’s a beautiful actress, I’m sure her daughter will be too. Kila is a lovely name.

Congratulations to Elaine Cassidy and Stephen Lord. Kila is a beautiful name.
I’m an avid fan of Elaine Cassidy. I love her on harper’s island, a room with view and ghost squad. And of course her fans fall in love with her on fingersmith.
I hope she’ll make more movies or mini-series in the near future.
